He was to the point I don’t think he knows who I am at this point . I was told he played guitar . I had no idea . So I gave him my SG we plugged into the clean chan iof my Herbert ( best clean tone in earth , no gayn ) . He sat and played a couple BB king kicks and Allman clean major pentatonics . It’s crazy . Hes forgotten who we are but the notes have stayed. He has not played in like 12 years . Just a cool moment to have with him

Dementia is so fuckin sad. Music and memory is really cool though. I remember watching a documentary where they interviewed a bunch of older folks (70s and 80s) and asked them questions about their youth; no one could remember anything.
Then they played them music from their youth and their faces lit up. They were able to remember songs, moments about their life because of the song, who they were with when they were listening to the songs.
Music is special like that. I'm sorry about your uncle dude.

That is awesome man. I mean the dementia is sad but it just goes to show you...guitar gets in your brain and never leaves.

That’s awesome. 😊

My dad is 85 and has Lewy body dementia. He’s a bass player for his whole life. He hasn’t picked one up in probably 10 years. He shakes like Michael J Fox though so I doubt remembering what to do would help him either way.

It actually helps with dementia to play . But who knows . Can’t hurt . You’re using your brain in a way most people can’t . So I think it does

Ya I’m really sorry to hear this . I’d play for him alot .

That is just crazy but at the same time, amazing! Dementia is such a terrible disease.
Glad you were able to share that moment with him.

My Dad has dementia and quickly progressed over the past two months or so to where we had to put him in a facility. A week after he got in, my Mom had a stroke and ended up in the hospital. Thankfully she is recovering. At her request, they put her in the same facility and same room until she is done with her therapy, which is awesome.

The past few months have been overwhelming but part of life. My parents have been together since high school in the 60s. My family just takes one day at a time and enjoying the moment.

Great story about your Uncle!

Wow.
I'm trying to take care of someone with dementia right now and if they could sit up and eat their food and not experience extreme agitated sundowners, that'd be a pretty good day.
I guess this shit comes in all forms

I spent last night with my dad while my mom was bowling. A good deal of the time he was asking when his wife was coming to take him home. He started showing signs of dementia maybe 7 years ago now and has a history of extreme agitation and violence. He was pretty calm last night. I was finally able to take him around the house to some stuff he remembered and he finally recognized it as the house he bought 65 years ago and raised a family in. He often thinks he's in the house he grew up in. He starts talking about coal chutes and describing Fairground Park, which he lived near in about 1945.

It's a bitch man.
