Tungsram are awesome preamp tubes, I bought some nos ones and put em in my 2204,But I would convert to el34's. Or maybe just put kt88's in there. awesome deal bro!

I assume you can but definitely research that, I haven't actually done it. Ive modded from el-34's to kt88 but not from 6550 to kt88.

I assume you can swap 6550's for Kt88's because I know you can swap 6ca7's "US" for el34's without modding, just adjust bias but like I said I never researched 6550's that much so not 100% sure.

Yup as far as I know you can swap. I did that with a VHT Deliverance, liked 88s better in that amp. Got a Boss Adaptive distortion coming, I just have ODs laying around here now. Pretty cool amp!

Local...I heard about it and contacted him before he posted it to Craigslist. Really good deals lately..JCM 800 4104 combo for 650 in mpls..vertical inputs..Rectoverb combo for 500...both on Craigslist mpls.

Thanks! Thing is, this is more of a real bass amp than the vintage super bass amps of the 70s. Has a slope, mid sweep and no presence. So modding it is pretty complicated. Gonna try some pedals first....so far I can get 80s rock easily with 2 od pedals.

Thought I'd update on what this thing sounds like. GE 6550s, with a mix of Tungsram pre in V1 V3 and sino 8th gen in V2. Through a V30/ET65 x pattern B cab, boosted with a newer Boss OD1X and a Danelectro eq pedal... Charvel USA SC1 with an Aldrich in the Bridge..my drummer thought it was exactly "Slave To The Grind" tone. A darker Marshall tone, but still had bite. Very cool amp. I have a Boss Adaptive Distortion coming tomorrow....best 600 bucks I've ever spent.
