Gigged the IIC+ HRG RI & the Dual Rec 90s RI this week and...

I am curious, I saw your post on FB with your HRG settings, do you boost it with one of your pedal to get more gain?
Well, that's a complicated question.

I have learned from gigging that if I'm staying in standard tuning the Marks don't really need a boost, and in fact the tone & clarity is better without it when you get the settings right. In this case I'll run the gain up in the 5-6 range. Too much gain and you lose all your clarity & definition in the mix.

However, in this band I'm running a Digitech Drop pedal to hit different tunings on the fly. This works great for live- however- it does soften / delay the attack a bit from the processing *however* the solution is a boost. Cleans it right up. So long as you still keep the overall gain down for clarity.

Setting our sound up it doesn't really sound right to have it not boosted in E std. and have it boosted in lower tunings, so I choose to just leave the boost on and set the gain more like 4.

If I was staying in one tuning I don't think I'd boost it. Even though it sounds cooler at home boosted, every recording from the crowd tells me Marks do have better live tone without it.

you boosting before or after the Drop?

I have my boosts after but realizing I've never tried before.
