Screw what anyone else thinks. If you like it, it is awesome.

I'm gonna try your settings tomorrow at GC on a used Kranker Dime they have there. I've been looking for good settings. and I saw yours I just want to make sure I have the setting right from the pic:

Bass 10
Mids 0
Treb 10
Gain 10
Ch Vol 0.5
Mstr Vol 1

What's that first knob before Bass? It looks to be set at 0.5

there are a couple tricks with that amp that will make it a LOT easier to dial in. Keep the "Sweep" control between 9:00-12:00, and make sure the master volume is up over 2:00 while using the ch vol as your volume control. I doubt that pic is what his real EQ is, mids at 0, sweep at 0, treble and gain at 10 would sound like a broken telephone IME.

That's just a stock photo. Not my settings.
My settings are more like:
Volume around 2:00
Presence around 2:30-3:00
Sweep 11:00-11:30(to taste, too low and amp is muddy, too high and too shrill)
Bass 11:00
Mids 2:00
Treble 1:30-2:00
Master to around 9:00-11
Gain: no boost around noon/with boost 9:00. Amp has a ton of gain, but somewhat useless after noon.

Cab Mesa 4x12
Boost Maxon OD808.

Oh yeah!

dude i have a krankenstein+ laying around the house that i loved. people bash em all day long but i loved that amp with a boost out front. mine has jj kt88's in it and sounds or sounded insane. something happened to it during transportation one day and i havent gotten around to sending it out for repair. i need to get it fixed, cuz i really dug the tones.

i had a working pass to ozzfest 05 back when kranks were just starting to come around. 5150s were the hip amp at the time on the boards and everyone came back from ozzfest raving about how great all these bands sounded using 5150s. a bunch of them were actually using kranks which i posted pictures of, but even with that the bands were really using 5150s according to everyone :dunno: kranks can sound just fine

They are like a cross between a Dual Rectifier and a 5150.
Tight like a 5150, but with Balls and Punch of the Rectifier.

You care, that's why you started the thread.

Buy for yourself no one else. Some people buy gear for all the wrong reasons on forums...

well said

i feel the EXACT same way about my tourmaster, i love it. i know it front to back and know how to get what i want from it..and it's REALLY versatile. it does metal just fine for me..im not one for super high "it plays itself" saturated gain, and i keep my gain knob down below 12oclock and my tone crushes.

is it a fortin? or a mark v or a dual rec tone?
nope. but it has character and beside my 5150, it def holds its own.

glad you found an amp you love...thats a good NAD indeed!

Always wanted to try a Krankenstein. Only tried an original Rev1. AMp sounded OK.

i dont think i'd ever buy a krank, but some local band here has one, and that thing did sound pretty beastly..

Interesting phenomenon, right? Buying gear to impress a bunch of faceless dudes on the Internet?
Yup! Been there, done that, then I went against the grain and bought an amp that I like......now I'm hooked and it's a lot easier to just say no to the fad amps....

LMAO!!! The day that I actually care about what some one thinks about what I play is the day I hang it up...

FWIW- Almost 10 months on my Nineteen80 and I'm still loving it.

I'd want one in my stable.
If eq'd wrong and played at low volume they sound utterly horrible.
Crank the master adjust the sweep and mids accordingly and it KILLS.
These amps sound raw, tight and bright. I love their presence cut and machine gun lows. Not overly thick, while still sounding BIG.

Congrats!!!   Who gives a rat's ass what anyone else thinks. As along as you like it then that is all that counts!!!

I sorry but that amp is not on the approved list of rig-talk cool amplifiers.

:banhim:
