You gotta try a Randall rg100es with a boost. Incredible sounding amp. Right up there with the Ampeg, but a different animal. They sound best at 4 ohms too.

To me the VH 140 has that thick early 90s death sounding gain with with all the right frequencies. I tried to love the Randall RH 100HT but maybe it wasn't for me. I am sure some day I ll try the rg100es

Yes, ur right. The HT is the rack version of the ES IIRC. I much prefer the VH to be honest. As brutal as it can get

I've owned both too and you're right, they are very different sounding amps. The Ampeg is more death metal, and the Randall is more sludge metal. There's a very specific way to dial in a RG for that Crowbar tone to. There's only one way to do it really.

And to be honest, i know the HT and ES share the same curcuit, but the transformer is different, and that makes the HT brighter compared to the ES for whatever reason?? but every time i've owned both amps i've noticed this. Plus there's the fact the every single Randall RG i've owned (and i've owned many) has sounded different, some by quite a bit.
