I finally decided to fork out the cash for a Dirty Shirley 40w. I had been thinking about getting myself one of these for a long time. Ever since I saw the Lance Keltner review on Youtube. I put that idea aside for a few years as I wanted to get a nice modded plexi first(which is the Friedman modded Ceriatone 2204 you see in the pic).
So anyways, I did it. Here is my review. NB very much in honeymoon stage but trying to be as impartial as possible.
-So far the low input is what I am favouring. It just sounds a bit more open and transparent than the high input.
-The gain structure switch brings a flavour for all occasions. Another favourite tone is plugging into the low input, switching the gain structure to the lowest gain mode and setting the gain knob at 8 on the dial. This gives you the slightly cranked JTM45 sound which is great. Great platform and I want to try this mode with more pedals as I feel there is some fun to be had.
-Reminds me a lot of the Cult - Electric album. Black Crowes - Remedy and Free - All Right Now are reference tones that are fun to play on this amp
-It takes my OD pedals extremely well. So far keeley modded ts808 and velvet effects minotaur respond very well
-This is by far the best 'roll down the volume for clean' amp that I have played
-It absolutely does the classic 60's/70's rock so well. Plug in, hit the open A5 chord and automatic big smiles!
-The head is fairly light which is a bonus
-Build looks sturdy, feels like quality, is quality.
Dave, bravo....awesome amp!
Hope to make some clips very soon.
