Well I finally got a Friedman after 4 years of saving! I didn't spend to much time with it yet but its cool for sure.

It is much smoother sounding than i thought it would be and has a hefty amount of bottom end, but this could be from the jj e34l tubes that it is running so i may swap those for jj el34.

Just out of curiosity what tubes are you guys using with you Brown eyes?

Happy NAD!

I'm late to the Friedman amp party myself (my amp came home in February) but it's been well worth the wait.

I didn't buy a BE; but a 71' SLP instead and Dave modded it.

For pre amp tubes, I'm running the following:
V1: Svetlana 12AX7
V2: GT Chinese
V3: GT Chinese
V4: Sovtek WA

Power section is ARS branded JJEL34 tubes.

What did you get on your amp? What kind of cab/speakers are you running with yours?

I have had 3 Friedman's; a '75 Superlead with KS and simple clean, a '82 JCM800 with KS and 2 master vol/gains, and my BE-100. All are great amps. I bought a Pink Taco and an waiting for it to ship, of all the modders out there, Dave's ideas on how an amp should sound are the closest to mine.

Your 71 mod sounds great i checked the clips out!!!

This one has Fat/Sat/C45/Be/HBE the usual fixins. I really like the simple clean, and dig what c45 does to the BE channel.

Another thing i noticed was that i was expecting HBE to have a ridiculous amount of gain, but it is lower than what i was thinking not that its a problem. It sounds so good boosted! truthfully i boost virtually every amp i play and just like it better with one.

Im going to take the E34L out this weekend and put regular EL34's. I like E34L in my stock 2204 but in the brown eye circuit i think they may be adding more bottom than i want. My Pres are all 12ax7b but will experiment with some others i have around the house.

Dave really has an ear for that modded marshall tone !!!

forgot to mention the cab is a marshall 1960 loaded with celestion v30a

Thanks for checking out the clips. I just refinished my Les Paul so I'll be making more soon.

I haven't tried the amp with V30's yet. I'm using Scumback M75/BM75's in an X-Pattern.

You can't go wrong with GB style speakers. I have a pair of WGS Green Beret's that i was running with the V30s in the same cab but as of late i prefer just a tad more tightness.

Get rid of the JJ's and get some Winged C's.

I would, but i put myself in a whole by getting the amp   so I will have to wait a little while until i can afford the SEDs. i have the regular el34 already so i will try those

JJ's seem to take smooth out the great mids the amp is capable of.

These amps are somewhat tube sensitive. The right tubes and it sounds unreal, the wrong ones........

I found that out just by moving around my 4 pre amp tubes to different slots.

I'm jealous as hell. Been saving for a BE-100. Enjoy the hell out of it!

BE100 = best amp I've owned and I've owned a boatload of them.
I haven't changed tubes yet and normally would have jerked the JJ's.
It sounds so good as is I am going to stick with ARS branded JJ as Dave reccomends.
I personally like the BE channel better than the HBE...too much gain on the HBE.
Get a KoKo boost and you will like the amp even more.
Awesome amp. Hopefully my amp Gas is over forever...been a long road to get to this point.

I never let tubes near my brown eye... :scared:

  Seriously though, congrats on owning such a sweet amp!

Hahaha thank you! i wouldn't do that especially right after shutting the amp off

I came home from work and decided to swap power tubes and popped the el34's and watched one literally go out on me the set i had laying around were terribly matched. I put the E34L back and the bias was at 50ma and thats without me touching the bias pot! i took it down to a more reasonable level at 32ma, and it was already better sounding. I then put the tungsol in v1, ruby ac5 in v2, a 12ax7b in v3. I left the v4 tube alone its labeled 12ax7 china. The pre's help more also. Definitely a killer head, it will probably be right were i want it when i put in some regular el34s, but i am satisfied for the time being
