Well I think I solved the riddle. Went to pop the chassis and take a peek inside and the top of one of the 84's came off in my hand.

My own dumbass fault for not taking a good look at the tubes before powering up.

Cool! Easy fix. You've just saved a trip to a repair shop $$

Yep. Happy and annoyed all at the same time. Gonna drive the half-hour to Radio Shack tomorrow and hope they have fuses amongst the cell phones and rc helicopters...
