Thanks for all the tips guys!! Ive had a lot of experience with these in the past, but never owned one. As soon as I took it out of the box, I turned the FX loop all the way up. Gives a volume boost when you engage it this way too. I have
a decimator g-string on the way. This amp is as noisy as my 6505. I also already have 6l6 tubes on the way. Ive never really been a fan of el34s. I put chinese silver dragons in there, but Im gonna try the EHs that came in the pre as well. I was, at first, running it through my converted 6505 212 cab, but it was too midrangey and farty through it. Its sounding much better through the buzzbomb. I imagine that the 6l6s will make it sound even better too. I might be looking for a different cab for it soon. Maybe another buzzbomb, maybe a 412, Im not really sure yet. Ive always really liked this amp. Playing it next to the 6505, I like the 6505 more, so I wouldnt be surprised if I sold it to fund a 5150 or 6505 in a few months, but I definitely love the tone, and I definitely want to spend a couple months with it. I think this might work better in my band than the 6505 because of the versatility and the clean. It doesnt sound nearly as aggressive as my 6505 through my cabs, but I think a 412 would really add something to the tone.
What speakers do you find work well with this amp?
Overall, Im very happy, and I got a very good deal on this amp. Ive been wanting one for soooo long, and its nice to finally have one. My ex was saying she cant believe I finally got a JSX (cuz I was planning on buying one around the time we started dating, but I ended up having to spend that money on my car instead, and that was 3.5 years ago). Im looking forward to trying different tubes and maybe some different speakers and cabs.
