CONGRATS! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my KSR
I picked up an ARES 50 a little over a month or so ago, and it is just an awesome amp. I was playing it yesterday thinking what a nasty, brutal, aggressive voicing this thing has; I absolutely love it so far. Looking around the amp too, it is built REALLY REALLY well; I've never communicated with Kyle, but his pride truly shows up in his work IMO.
The ARES has the crunch switch your talking about, and I messed with it for the first time last week. Its does affect the gain structure as you stated and from my noodling around, I actually like it quite a bit for classic rock stuff. Definitely still a fairly saturated gain structure and not what a purest would consider for classic rock , but oh so fun to play
