So looks like Santa came early this year and brought me another nice amp to play with :D

Scored a 1978 Marshall JMP SuperBass 100w, and it's in fantastic condition for its age! Everything inside is stock and none of the wiring has ever been touched as far as i can tell. The 'window' selectors for the Impedance and Mains Voltage were a bit iffy, so i just ditched them and hardwired the amp internally for 240VAC and 16 Ohms. Also the handle ontop of the headshell needs to be replaced, but that's no biggie.

Also it came with original Mullard preamp tubes, and a fresh set of Ruby EL34B-STR which was nice! :) Cranked her up last night and she sounds great, pure bluesy classic rock tones!

I actually bought the amp so i could mod it and try out a couple of new circuit ideas i had in mind, so chances are during this Xmas holiday i'll end up modding it. I'm sure it will sound killer

Yeah man they're great amps, the late 70's Marshall JMP heads are my fav amps

Merry Christmas to you too Jim! Have a good one :)

Congrats! Those things have an astounding amount of gain on tap... you just have to move some wires.

I like how you're modding an old JMP Superbass. :D Merry Christmas, Dan!

Cheers Vlad!

Absolutely, there's so many things you can do with old Marshalls, its such a simple circuit to start with... They sound great stock, but they definitely make a great platform for mods.

Very cool!

Man I really want a vintage marshall but between nuts that think they have some collector's piece and hacked ones it is tough :(

There's a fine line... LOL! :D
I wouldn't mod anything in a stock unmolested '68 Plexi, but then again, I'd probably not buy one because in their original form, they're downright unseable for me... LOL! :D

Awesome Dan!

How are the pedals coming along? :D

Still haven't gotten round to finishing them haha    I've been focussing on amp mods/rebuilds for the last few months, so never got around to the pedals! Definitely planning on finishing them up in the new year!

I know what you mean Scotty, it can be tough finding a good deal on the old Marshalls!

I still think Metroamp's vintage Marshall clones are amazingly good and i would probably go that route instead of spending thousands on a vintage Marshall. Atleast with Metroamp, you get great customer service and everything. If anything goes wrong, theyre only a phonecall away. If you score an old Marshall and it dies.. you are screwed.

That's the best route. One of these days I'm gonna get a Metroamp. I'd love to find an already built one for cheap.

Keep an eye on the Metroamp forum Classified section, you often see them pop up on there for good prices :)
