I just got mine! First, everybody is different. Lord knows I haven't bonded w/ certain amps and they were out the door in no time.

That said, I plugged an Yngwie Strat into the thing. Dimed the High Treble input volume......turned the overall volume down to a reasonable level. This sound was what I expected. That of a '72 Metal Panel. Still cleanish even with the volume dimed, but that's to be expected as the Yngwie Strat has weak PU's.

I turned the Booster on (both knobs dimed) and the gain and sustain was near infinite. Now, it wasn't preamp gain, which gets dirty as we all know. It's cleaner, but again, the sustain was epic. It was more trebley w/ the Booster engaged and I had to dial the tones accordingly. Jumping the channels gave more bottom end which I liked. It was Yngwie/ Blackmore tones. I can't play ANY Yngwie but I was brought up on Blackmore, so I just played Deep Purple/ Rainbow shit and it sounded awesome. I couldn't stop playing , which is always a good sign. The digital Reverb, Noise Gate all worked well. I am pleased with it.
My last Marshalls were a Vintage Modern and JVM, and they were great, but for an ols school player like me, this amp is the shit.

So, the gain is there, it's just not the type gain you get from a JVM....it's cleaner.

I can't wait to try outboard boosters with this amp

very cool! How's the Power Scaling ? Do you loose any balls from the amp if you drop it too lower watts or will retain the full amp vibe?

Ant

looks fat and incapable of playing with feeling :)

Seriously, congratulations, sweet amp score right there.

AS much of a prick you are I am stoked you dig the amp that much and trust your evaluation of the amp since you have seen a ton of plexi type amps from all makes.

Now I really hope I get mine.

For what it's worth. I understand the op's situation with the amp. I would have expected it to have a good amount of gain on tap if needed too. The amount of gain that is considered unusable is different for some. Shit, I had a Sig-X and it had just enough for me so it just depends. And I like the Randall better than the Sig so it's all just what you like and people shouldnt get all heated over what somebody decides to do with there gear. I really want to try one of those yngwie's though, hopefully my local shop will have one coming.
