I got a Hiwatt a while back... much to my shagrin, plugging a tele into it didn't cut the mustard for the Dimmu Borgir cover band I was in at the time.

I pulled out my Martin acoustic and threw it back in the case. Piece of crap, I was playing some Slayer Reign in Blood and I just couldn't cop King or Hannemans tone. Off to Fed Ex it goes.

Just havin' fun man! :D

Did you try a MetalZone into an old radio?

Reminds me of the time I plugged a

into this

And much to my disappointment, it didn't sound like

Meanstreet to Giles is probably the wrong side of the tracks

If I get one I am wailing on Accept and Thin Lizzy and maybe some gained out Secrets and Light up the Sky by VH

Maybe some ULAK Lynch

I waited 10 long months for this amp...

I ordered it moments after it was announced...

I was number #2 in line at one of the largest Marshall dealers in the USA to get one

I thought about this amp often during the long wait and had many a wet dream over this beast whilst wating for this day to finally arrive

After playing it for about 15 min tonight after Fedex dropped her off I knew that this amp was NOT FOR ME AT ALL EVAR!!!

I know what you mean. you know pretty quickly when amp is not for you.

This is all very entertaining, but I have to go take a dump... :scared:

It is very impressive and comes with alot of cool stuff and it weighs a TON and is thick like the old 200 watt Marshall Majors from the early 70's...

But I ain't digging it and thats the way it goes as this amp is all classic Marshall 70's and 80's tones.

Hey Giles, knowing what you play and what you are into, I kind of scratched my head when you said that you were getting this amp.

I think that you put a little too much stock into guys who clearly had no idea of what they were talking about. YJM was never about high gain and the purpose of this amp was never about that either. The guys who said that this was purported to have more gain than a JVM couldnt have been more wrong or clueless. You dont even have to be an Yngwie fan to know what hes all about tone and equipment wise.

I understand the difference between hope and expect but you based it on seriously bad info. Methinks that you learned a valuable lesson hopefully.

Considering some of the early thrash tones were had with goosed or modded plexis, JMP's and JCM800's (ANNIHILATOR for example), I don't think it is a stretch to assume one could with the internal boost pedal wide open and some hot pups, get some good thrashy tones in that YJM. I also see the argument that the YJM clearly is presented as being a 1959 circuit + DOD boost and gets that Yngwie tone and classic hot rodded sound. That said, some of Yngwie's tunes can sound pretty scooped and heavy at times given the album and if he didn't use those single coils the tone would be thicker. Personally after complaining that my JCM had no gain, I threw an SD-1 in front of it and presto, I was off playing Holy Wars...

Id hit that amp with a TC Electronic Preamp. If you could find one.. might turn it into something modern. My '78 JMP turns into a firebreathing dragon when I use my TC Booster/Line Driver.

Maybe you meant to buy a 2203KK? If you got your money back, no harm, no foul. It just sucks you had to wait all that time to be disapointed!

I bought a 2203KK the day it came out and was let down too... To bad there was alot of misinformation about this amp on the Marshall forum saying it had more gain than a JVM... I will look for them... I actually showed them to some of my friends months ago.

The stock KK2203 is a joke... however, the Fortin modded one is not ;)

I was VERY disappointed with the YJM . Not at all what I was expecting. Bright , shrill and very grainy sounding. You definitely still need some sort of dirt box in front of it to get anywhere close to shred tones. I did not dig

Hey sorry to say this but have everything all wrong my friend... I bought the amp just days after NAMM and 6 months prior to reading the post on the Marshall forum (please read my post on page 2)

That post about the YJM having all that gain had nothing to do with me buying the YJM as I bought the YJM from my hookup at sweetwater approx 6 months before even seeing that post. So the descision was already made.

I was showing that thread on the Marshall forum to some friends at my house around June of this year not long after I placed an order for a CCV. That post only gave me more hope some 6 months AFTER I bought the amp that I might actually really dig the amp.

I bought the amp because I wanted to try it out and because it had a built in boost and because (as I stated in my very informative post on the second page) I have my own bag of basic 101 guitarist tricks for getting amps to work for me if certian things are in place.

I dont use 100% an amps gain and I use pedal exclusivey to get my tones so the amp does not have have over the top gain by a long shot... At the end of the day I hoped the amp would work for me and it didn't

Van Halen used a plexi with low to no gain and his sig amp rocks with more gain that he ever used a... So IMO a players tone on albums does not mean his sig amp wont have a little extra mojo...

And as for lessons, there is only one to be learned here... That this forum has gone 1000 miles down the crapper over the past year or so...

You don't need an amp or even a guitar to sound like Dimmu Burger. Just hook up a mic to your toilet bowl after you eat some bad taco's and a six pack of Corona's. Same applies to a good Lamb Of God tone.
Don't ruin this for me Danny... :(

it's all he has

Why do you hate me?!

oh stop
