Finally got a Mesa Mark IV. I grabbed a combo from Music go Round. It's in pretty good shape. Im going to convert it into a head as soon as Mesa, GTS, or some other cab builder goes back to work.

I got it home and this is the first Mesa I've ever owned or even played. I looked up some recommended settings and it sounded like ass. I kept tweaking, changed a couple tubes, etc then figured out my tone knob was rolled back on my guitar. I was talking through my issues with a friend and while describing it I said "it sounds like my tone knob is rolled back" then the lightbulb when off. I felt fucking stupid but over joyed when I heard it in its glory. These things are killer.

I have a Ceriatone Molecular on order that Im tempted on cancelling. I have a weird feeling of being "good" on amps. Im sure that will go away though.

Happy NAD! I have not had the opportunity to play a Mark IV in my home with my gear. I’d like to though.

Nice! I had a Mark IIB here for a few months and it was an absolute beast with gain for days. Had an insane low end response; more than the Herbert! Also had a MKIII blue stripe recently but had someone offer me about $500 more than what I paid so off it went. Cool amps.

yeah its definitely a fun amp. Of course I had to play some Metallica and some Dream Theater. I wish I would have got one of these sooner.

Just wait until you get to play it loud in a band setting. After the first song, everyone will be all smiles and they will tell you that "that is the best tone you've ever had"!

Grats dude that's awesome! I hope you threw in enough "yea-ah yeeeaaahhh's" and "ooohhh-aaaahhh's" while jamming some Tallica.

Congratulations

I've been playing mine hours every day for about a month. I've been going through two boxes of overdrive, boost and distortion pedals seeing what works best with my rig.

I bought mine on the first run 30 years ago. It's one of the amps I will probably never sell.

Desert Island amp - congrats!!
Agreed. Probably my favorite amp to date. Just a massive sounding, beast of an amp.

I need to get a headshell so I can convert it to a head instead of a combo. I think Mojotone said they could possibly do it as well as sourmash. Do any of you guys have the medium head? If you do can you post the dimensions?

I build custom headshells, hardwoods though no tolex, did one for my Mark iv, Honduran mahogany and wicker..not the cheapest but as high quality as you can get..youll have to pm me a text number for any pix adding pix on this site isnt my friend.., One amp I will never sell..and ive sold a ton like the rest of us..

I just grabbed another A version IV, it's from 1990. The thing is killer on an old Mesa Trad 4x12. It destroys a Mark V I owned previously.

I want to get a head shell for a Mesa Royal Atlantic. But it can't be the same as the regular Mesa head shell, because if you take the combo and put it into the Mesa headshell then all the lettering is upside down. The combo tubes face down, the head tubes face up. I know the Mesa Electra Dyne combo fits right into a Lonestar head shell, I'm not sure about the Royal.

If you have any woodworking skills, on a Mark IV you can cut the combo cab down to headshell size.

probably the same but you'd have to verify obviously, I only make them for amps I have chassis templates for at the moment unless someone sends me the chassis, right now it, soldano slo and similar, friedman pink taco , dirty shirley , evh 5153 50 watt, mesa mark iv short head and similar, marshalls, 5150's ,reverend, jet city 22h and similar, probably some others, also make combo cabs for the 20 watt friedmans too much work to make one of someone else's measurements..

Mine is a medium not a short. Can you do those?

My good buddy is a cabinet builder (he was also my coworker at Sadowsky). He's in CT. DM vitucci_cabinets on Instagram or email him through his website https://www.vituccicabinets.com/ there's a contact page. I'm gonna have him build me a 1x12 1x15. :D

Id need the chassis, wouldn't want to risk everything not lining up..

From what I have seen on the web lately....I think someone could work full time making head shells to convert from combos.

For sure, only company I've seen a lot of those from is Zilla. Def an untapped market in the US.
