So yesterday I scored this beauty, locally. Thanks to GJgo for the hook up! Good looking out, bro! It’s a ‘94 Rev G, and near mint. It’s actually my first Rec, so I’m pretty excited to find a nice old one. You old Recto pros have any cool tips? Settings? Boosts? Tubes?... I played it all night thinking that the master didn’t work, while I used the channel volumes, with a huge volume jump at 9 o’clock, until I discovered that with the loop on bypass, the master doesn’t work.   What loop setting do you set it on?
So far I love it, it’s a beast! Knobs are all around noonish, give or take, and I’m boosting it with an SD-1. How do you like to set the master and channel volumes? Thank you in advance!

Congrats man! Looks evil. Those are killer monstrous amps....I will be joining the club again soon!

Congrats! I use to have one just like that.

Last time I had some Rectos, I ran everything pretty much at 1 o'clock in red modern mode with the SS rectifier and the loop bypassed. Sometimes the low end would be a bit much, but I would run a VFE Standout at unity gain and use in front of the amp as a high-pass filter to cut some of the rumble.

Nice score.

I leave the loop bypassed as I like the tone better that way. Don't be afraid to crank up the presence.

Nice score.

There was one at my GC last year for $1,000. I passed when I should have jumped. I could have sent it in to Boogie for any revision for only a few hundred more. I’m seeing chrome Rectos selling for over $2k these days.

Lotsa love for the triple, so sick. You might miss that one Jer.

Damn...you're on a tear...good for you bro! Had a MW dual and thought it was a great amp. I should check out a triple someday.

Stoked for you man! I knew about this one through word of mouth, it's only a few serials away from mine. Didn't need two so I shared the info :)

These early blackface triples are special amps. Second only to a Coliseum in MOTHER OF GOD factor when you crank it through a full stack.

My old 2-Channel Triple looks just like that also. Mine is a '99 though.

My EQ changes quite a bit depending on the volume level. I think I start with the Korn settings of B:1 M:11 T:1 (oclock), and then presence is like 9 oclock on the red channel. I fidget with it a lot though depending on if I use a boost or not, and which boost I am using. Also, which guitar and tuning I am in.

I used to bypass the loop because it makes the amp lose lowend, but then I did the loop bass suck mod, and generally always have the loop on now for better volume control. I think I keep the channel masters about 10-11 oclock, and then the overall master at 11 or 12 oclock depending on which deafening level I am going for.

Thank you all! It’s a beast, I love it! Knobs are all around noon give or take, less mids, more bass. My Maxon OD9 is working really great as a boost. Better than my SD1 and Buxom Boost. Not gettin the amp super tight, but tight enough. Amps sounds HUGE! Fat, raw, and aggressive. I see what all of the excitement is over these.

Thank man! What updates are you speaking of, or would you recommend? What do they do? Got any tube tricks for this amp?

Jeremy, thank you again! I greatly appreciate it! Great amp, I’m having a blast with it. Just got done cranking it though two 4x12’s and it sounds massive. So huge and aggressive. Beast of an amp!

I’ve also got the loop bypassed for that reas. What mod are you talking about?

An EQ in the loop is great for recto’s. Just set loop to 100%. Small bumps on the EQ sliders can have a big affect. Remember when using the loop the channel masters become FX send levels.

"There is a 2.2uf capacitor connected to pin 3 of tube V4a (which is the effects loop recovery stage).
Changing this to a 10uf tantalum capacitor should eliminate the tone suck or at least reduce it substantially.
Just be sure to install it in the right direction with the "+" end connected to pin 3. This worked great for me."

Mike B. verified this mod (not the exact cap value) and did it to a Recto I sent in for service. Still not transparent, but better than stock.

Yep, thats it! The stock value cuts the bass too high. Around 300hz if I remember right. Changing it lowers the cutoff so that much more bass is let through. Makes the loop much more transparent.

Killer amp man. It was just like two years ago that I finally learned how to dial in Mesa amps. Starting with my Mark III blue stripe. Same with the Rectifier I had. Two 4x12’s is always the answer.

Do you mean set both loop levels at 100%?

Sounds cool, man. I’ll probably send to Mike B for a servicing, and when I do I’ll have this done too.
