I picked up a Mesa Triple Rectifier that was modded by Kyle Rhodes about a week ago and it's AWESOME! It's got the sag but its still tight. It sounds great blended with my Pittbull UL, the UL being super tight and the Mesa with its fat(yet tight) tone. Does anyone know how I can tell what revision it is?

Here's a clip. It's just my Gibson V straight into the Mesa, through a Splawn 4x12:

And here's a good old long channel run through vid

Kyle does amazing work!

Heck yeah, it sounds like it has a boost or EQ in front when you plug straight in

I have a Rhodes Dual that may be similar
I loved the vintage for awhile but recently have been jammin modern red
Lots of good tones in there!

Sounds awesome man!!
I always keep thinking I want another amp....then I play my modded Recto and it does it all and sounds great!
For the Rock tone my fave is the red channel with gain on less then noon....clean boost. Shit sounds unreal.
Sorry man....not trying to hi-jack your thread. But Modded Rectos are the SHIZZNIT!

I want a Triple so bad. ;)

I think I'll have to try that

Damn that sounds good. I really like how it still sounds like a Rectifier with the low end sag but has nice clarity. Maybe I should send my two channel Dual Rectifier in for a mod. Do you know what work was done on the amp?

I believe:

1. Preamp mod -- changed gain structure for more note separation and 'tightness' in the low-end.
2. Clean mod -- overall improvement to the Clean channel / mode
3. Depth mod -- Slave out on the back of the amp is now a Depth/Resonance control (only works in Vintage mode since Modern disconnects negative feedback)
4. Voicing mod -- Revoiced the Red channel
5. Bias mod -- Added bias test points to back of amp for easy biasing. Added bias pot to top of amp chassis.

Run a Boss GE7 in the loop(or any other Graphic EQ)......settings pretty much in the middle...click it on and MAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN....
Just sounds so damn Hi-Fi.

Hmmm. Honestly, I was wanting this amp pretty bad, I needed this and a Rackto to finish off my recto collection. Couldn't swing the cash right now though.

What is the serial number? I believe it's a rare very early rev F triple. There have been a couple of these float through the RT classifieds, but there isn't many of them around.

When you want to move on, please hit me up first. I will likely take this triple off your hands.

The SN is R-001621, what does that mean?

The only reason I'd be selling this is if I had bad money problems, so I hope that doesn't happen. But if it does I'll definitely message you first :)

Dude, you're in MPLS? We should totally compare recs and pittbulls!

Ben,

When I had the amp I called mesa and had them run the numbers for me. It is a 1993 the very first year that they made the triple recto. Hope that will help you some. :)

Fwiw I like a clean boost (BB+) > red vintage
This allows me to dial n that huge low end/depth yet keep it tight
If I can blast volume & want modern hi gain, I go guitar> Red modern
Brutal!

It is without doubt a revision F. You don't know the history of the rectos and bought this? Google "2channel early dual rectifier" or "2ch dual rec revision difference", there is a ton of stuff
out there.

Well just let me know, if something changes and you get bored with it, want something new, I'm your man.

Yep :) I mean, I know that there are different revisions, and that a pre 500 dual rec is desirable. That's about it.

How I came across this amp is actually an interesting story. I saw a video on Kyles channel and thought "Man, that tone would be perfect with my Pittbull". So I looked into getting a Triple for him to mod. Lo and behold a couple weeks later I found not only an amp that was already modded by Kyle, but the very amp that was in the video! And it was on my favorite forum, win win

Sounds like a good mix. I blend my Peters and Wizard sometimes, amazing

Hey benduncan. I'm new here and am in the market for a new head. The Pittbull and the 2Ch TR/DR are the main 2 on my list. Do you have a preference of one over the other? Which is more crushing in the low mids, cuts through a mix better, and is just plain more pissed off sounding? I currently have an Engl Savage 120. Love the gain but it's way to thin for what I want to do.
