Got one back in the stable. A mid-90s Peavey 5150 combo (signature). After a Guitar Center fiasco, I happened to find one somewhat local. The seller was very helpful via text, and I went to pick it up this morning. Not in perfect shape, but that's ok with a 20 year old amp.
I am shocked at the sounds I'm getting out of this thing. The cleans are useable, and the shared EQ isn't a problem because I prefer a dark clean. When I owned one before, I never really cranked the gain on the "crunch" channel
It does a pretty good modded Marshall impression there, and I've spend most of the day jamming some 80s rock riffs on it.
The lead channel just is what it is, which everyone already knows, I had simply forgot. Noise gates are making all the difference, and erasing most all of the complaints I had in the 90s when I sold mine. And since I don't gig out, the 85lb complaint no longer really applies.
She's a great bedmate with my uberschall for metal tones, and I'm having a blast exploring the crunch channel now. It's a happy Saturday en mi casa.
