Got one back in the stable. A mid-90s Peavey 5150 combo (signature). After a Guitar Center fiasco, I happened to find one somewhat local. The seller was very helpful via text, and I went to pick it up this morning. Not in perfect shape, but that's ok with a 20 year old amp.

I am shocked at the sounds I'm getting out of this thing. The cleans are useable, and the shared EQ isn't a problem because I prefer a dark clean. When I owned one before, I never really cranked the gain on the "crunch" channel  It does a pretty good modded Marshall impression there, and I've spend most of the day jamming some 80s rock riffs on it.

The lead channel just is what it is, which everyone already knows, I had simply forgot. Noise gates are making all the difference, and erasing most all of the complaints I had in the 90s when I sold mine. And since I don't gig out, the 85lb complaint no longer really applies.

She's a great bedmate with my uberschall for metal tones, and I'm having a blast exploring the crunch channel now. It's a happy Saturday en mi casa.

I remember hauling one of those around in the mid 90s. Was a beast to load in and out. Sounded good though. Wish I still had it.

Yep, I was all of 110 lbs trying to carry an 85lb amp around haha. It was a two man job at the time, but even today I was cursing it getting it down the steps. Oh well, it won't move again for a long time.

Congrats man! it

One of these days I'm going to pick up a 5150 I or II or a 6505. Have never owned either but feel I owe it to myself as a metal player to add one to the arsenal. I owned the Fender 5153 both 100 and 50 watt and really didn't care for either

I owned a 5153 50w, and played a Stealth quite a bit. They are great amps for the price, and so is a 5150/6505. Difference being, I think the 5150 is just full of more hell.

My Bogner sounds like it costs 5 times as much when I A/B, but the 5150 does things the Uber can't do. Without any pedals (save a few noise gates) the 5150 lead channel is aggressive AND chunky at the same time. It might be an underdog thing, but I'm just having a blast playing the 5150. It should not be able to make the sounds it does.

My first amp, bought new when it was coming out. I always hated it
Probably because i was looking for a more metal tone when i was a kid. And i think the Sheffled speakers were fizzy... but too old memories.

My friends hated me for the weight of that thing :D Good times anyway.

I owned one of those for a few years, but never gelled with it. I wasn't into boosting back then, so that could have played a part. Overall, I just found the sound to be fizzy or buzzy. With that said, it tracked and recorded amazingly well, which is why I hung onto it. If you're digging the sounds out of it, that is great. Many of the tips that I read about were to boost the green channel, which I never tried.

I got the 6505mh and run it with a Mesa oversized 1x12. Its my perfect rig.

My buddy brought his 6505mh down for me to try, and I immediately started shopping haha. Just a great tone. It is fizzy with low volumes, but I'm fine with that. Turning it up a bit seems to solve the problem. And unlike other amps I've had, I have to lower the presence with low volumes.
