NAD; Probably the only boogie I'll ever own again.

They are very different amps. Been years since I played on a Blue Angel. Might be the only Mesa amp without a gain control. It's only poweramp overdrive. Nice amp and appeals to more organic players. The voice is very different in these two amps.
The California Tweed has a lot more gain available. It's more your hot rod Mesa version of a classic Deluxe circuit.

In my personal opinion the California Tweed is the best amp Mesa has put out in awhile. It's pretty unique and classic at the same time. There is a certain warmth in the voice that is very pleasant. Randy loves the Deluxe and this is his homage to it.

Same here, it's been a long time since I've played a blue angel, but theyre very cool amps.

The Cali Tweed is way more versatile in my opinion, and way more touch responsive and easy to play as far as cleanish sounds go.

I agree, it's the coolest amp boogie has put out in a very long time.

Gotcha bitch.

You probably assumed because this is RT that it would be a brown stripe mark 2c++ LGHDTV or dual rec rev f chartreuse didn't ya?

I know it's very TGP, but this thing is actually really fantastic sounding, takes pedals spectacularly, and the power scaling is a great feature - the 2 and 10 watt settings can get very "champy"

It's basically a tweed fender with some modern ease of use features.

I'll be scouring the classifieds for grab n go Birkenstocks with socks, cargo shorts on stage, and brush up on my "la grange."

I'm rolling with the 140w 1965b; the sizes match even if the colors don't.

Anyone else played these? I think they sound far superior to a bassman LTD or something.
Punk rock!

I've been eyeing this and the Fillmore 100. I've got lower wattage stuff covered, however, love the simplicity of the CaliTweed and the MultiWatt feature. Digging a bit more into them, the Fillmore 100 brings the wattage and seems to have a lot of the CaliTweed character. All of this has been spawned by my missing my Mark V. There's soooo much tone in that amp, however, the idea of eventually having to have it serviced scared the crap outta my wallet and I ended up trading it years ago. The single row of knobs for killer tone and stacking things in front of the amp have really become most desirable for my uses.

Recently discovered ikMultimedia's Mesa 2 collection and can get some really great tones outta the CaliTweed & Mark V in there, which only further convinced me (when funds become available) I need to verture over to Sweetwater and give the CaliTweed & Fillmore some testing. Tone memory of my Mark V are all in this collection, too. The ability to change cab, speakers, all the things Amplitube can do, etc... make it a whole lotta fun, too.

If solely going on looks: I think the CaliTweed is beautiful simplicity in its standard form. The curly maple cab'ed combo is simply to die for. All that tone and those looks, too?!? Zoinks!!!

Congrats on finding your new favorite amp.

I bought my friends California Tweed 440 1x12 combo. It has the 100 watt Blackbird Jensen.

So far I really like it. Really versatile for such a simple amp.

Great cleans and very nice reverb but not that great with its overdrive as you crank it up. If it actually distorted like a real tweed or brown face when your got it cooking would have bought one a long time ago. I bet it makes a great pedal amp if you want good gain tones.

Gotcha bitch.

I like the point of breakup and crunch sounds. It doesn't sound like the vintage amps. But the preamp distortion and poweramp overdrive blend very well. It does 60's-70's amount of distortion. Anything else needs a pedal.

With the Multi-Watt™ 2, 10, 20, 30, or 40 switch it gives a fair amount of control over the color and feel. It covers a fair amount of the Fender thing. With some Vox highs blended in on the pentode modes. It doesn't really sound like any of these amps. But in those family of sounds.

As for the speaker it has plenty of bottom. I tend towards English voiced speakers. So having a American voice is a nice change. The Jenen Blackbird being a 100 watt AlNiCo.

I definitely need more time with the amp to make any real evaluation. But at this point it's unique enough I want to check it out.

Want one so bad
Definitely outside of my normal range. I had a conversation with Randall a few years before this amp came out. We both really like a Deluxe. I think this is his version. Pretty evolved from that.

The Fillmore is great as well. I played a cali tweed and a Fillmore 50 and left with the Fillmore.

I wish someone was doing a mod to Fillmore to put some more low end in the gain channel. The clean is a spectacular mix of blackface and tweed though. That channel is worth the amp price alone.

love when you get an amp, and have no real expectations for it, and it impresses. I picked up an old silverface Bassman years ago to practice replacing caps, and that thing surprised the crap out of me. Sold it thinking I made a profit at the time... dumbass.

Same with an RA100 I picked up. I got it cheap enough where it was just a flip, but I ended up really liking that thing. I traded it to a friend, and regretted it ever since, lol. I don't even remember what I traded it for, but I remember that amp.

I owned #97 in the combo version.
Fantastic amp!
Just wanted to try others and back then couldn’t afford to keep everything.
I’d own one again myself…

Mine is #446.

Gain max, 10 watt, bass 9 o'clock, everything else at 11 is fairly aggressive.

I see some people are using the Blackbird for metal. I'm not too sure about that. I have not plugged the amp into other cabs yet.
