Great transaction with ~absract~, for starters. Paid last Thursday night, shipped Friday, received today. I know he posts here as well, but we touched bases on TGP.

The amp sounds glorious! It had a preamp tube going microphonic, had a Tungsol in V1, a Ruby high grade in V2, and Sovtek LPS in V3. The Ruby was the culprit, (not surprised, I've always had trouble with those shit tubes). I put a real-deal Blackburn factory Mullard from the 50's made in Great Britain in V1, and moved the Tungsol to V2, and HOLY SHIT, the tone is just glorious! 2nd gear is mean as shit sounding, but 1st gear is just so damn sweet. I used an MXR GT-OD to goose it a little to tighten it up, and just ran the level up, no gain. Found myself cruising through the old days of Bon Scott era AC/DC, Jailbreak, Let there be Rock, you name it, it NAILS IT. So much fun, fun, fun! 2nd gear was equally as fun, but it's got some beef, for sure. The mids seem to relax some, and some seem warmer/rounder, if that makes sense. Here's where I found Exodus Tempo Of The Damned, Slayer, and some Drop-D, Alice In Chains. Again, it just nails it!

I was concerned how it would like my Randall V30 cab. It does have that V30 fizz, until the volume gets up. I anticipated the possibility that I may have to do some speaker musical chairs. It doesn't sound bad at all, but this amp is LOUD, so I may look into maybe a couple Greenbacks, or maybe 20 watt EVH Greenbacks in an X-pattern might smooth it out?? Suggestions?

Now, the magical part was, I hung onto my 2 Mesa Thiele 1x12's, with MC90's. I am SO glad I did, the Splawn sounds absolutely SICK through those things! No fizz, and warm, fat, and tight low end without the huge volume. The loop volume does work to some extent, but I also run a Morley Little Alligator volume pedal in the loop, along with an MXR 10-Band, Black Label Chorus, and DD-3 Delay. My RP1000 adds too much compression to the tone, which makes no sense, since it's in the loop for effects only?? So, I'm back to pedals.

I'm so happy with this amp. I'm glad I took the plunge, and buying used saved me $800 not buying the Runt. I can't imagine the Runt 50 being half the amp this thing is, it's just sick!

Awesome! And very cool that Scott started making them like the older versions, with the small chassis/JMP style instead of the one with the input miles away from the knobs!

Might be the cheap AD/DA converters in it doing that.

If you're looking into 20w Greenbacks to mix with V30's, it might pay to have both GB's on top. The 20w GB's are only 96dB in sensitivity.

Congrats on a killer amp. I've been wanting a competition for awhile.

I had a Splawn Competition back around 2006 or so. Such a great amp! I wasn't even gigging at the time but wish I was. That thing would have killed on a stage.

I had a Quick Rod in 2005. This one's a 2015. Totally new beast with the bells and whistles, and the loop volume master is a nice touch. They are ungodly loud amps!

Cool you bought my amp , I sold it to Abtract at TGP last month . Yep it's LOUD , that was one of the reasons I sold it but the tone was pretty much just as you describe , Enjoy

Have fun

I would expect any Digitech RP to add compression :dunno: I had one.

I can really only recommend Splawn Small Blocks :D but I'm sure Greenbacks would be great.

EQ in the loop is a huge must have for me. I'm usually in Gear 2 Drop C riffage mode.

Congrats man!!!! Can NOT go wrong with Splawn stuff. I want the SuperComp (Nitro dirt channel)

Congrats on the new Splawnage. I have a Splawn modded 1987 - its killer.

Not to highjack but how are you running your loop EQ? Why a huge must have?

I use an MXR 10-band. I normally run everything flat and just boost the lows. I wouldn't say it's a must have, other than for lower volume playing. The Splawn has plenty of beef when you goose the volume through a 4x12. But, for lower volume, and through my Mesa Thiele 1x12's, I always use an EQ. Thickens up the tone, quite a bit, boosting the lows/low mids.

Curious what p/u your playing through? I'm really considering a splawn QR in the future. By the way Sick set you have!!!

Main guitar is a 2016 Gibson Explorer T, and I've kept it stock, (496R/500T). I have a Duncan Custom/Jazz set I bought to change them, but it sounds so pissed off and aggressive, I left it be. But, if you were looking to upgrade, the Custom is my favorite bridge humbucker. Just perfect in all spectrums, not overly hot, and really big, fat and clear sounding without the mud I find with the JB's.

The 4x12 is a Randall Diavlo w/Vintage 30's, it's one of the heaviest beast cabs I've ever handled, (weight-wise), and it's triple ported, so the low end gets pretty massive too. KILLER cab. The two stacked to the left are Mesa Thieles with MC90's. They sound massive as well, closed-back and ported. I don't think I'll ever part with them.

Congrats!!! I have a 2016 small head box, 50 watt with the new/old switch such a Great amp!!
