Vintage Marshall 50 watt amps are referred to as a Small Box as the box is smaller then the big head.

Congrats Mosh! Killer setup! Are you running V30s in your cab?

The cab is a Friedman with Greenbacks on top and v30's on the bottom, no X pattern.

Nice combination! I bet that sounds massive!

I've been wanting to add a Marshall (well, probably two of them) to my rig for years, but I'm torn between finding a stock JCM/JMP 2203 and either a Bogner or a Friedman. I can get rather convincing "Marshall crunch" from the Mark IIIs, but I've been wanting to get a tone like Jerry Cantrell's last two AIC records and a lead tone like Zakk's. Say what you will about his playing, but his lead tone is great, IMHO. It's nearly impossible to find a 2203 that hasn't been messed with, and based on today's prices, there are better values that the 2203. The local GC started selling Friedman amps, but the price is a little higher than I want to spend.

How would you compare the small box vs. helios (previous eagle) ? The unpacking picks are killing me.

"small snatch"
That's great! He should have called it that, no one would have batted an eye!

Clip still sounds good for a distant phone clip, you can tell it's got some teeth. So is it just the power section that feels different with the BE channels, or are there actual design differences? Do you prefer one over the other?

Nice !!
I wish the be-100 had a volume AND gain knob for the clean channel... but, still bad ass beyond comparison.

Of course "Box" can also be a nice modern day colloquialism for vagina...

Other well known examples besides the aforementioned "snatch" are snapper, hair-pie, whisker-biscuit, vertical smile, fuzzy sausage wallet, tuna target, fur-burger
and of course pink taco.

If you mean do I prefer the BE100 over the small box 50? Not really as they have similarities but are different too in an amazing way. The small box feels a bit more "classic" is the best way i can put it. The plexi channel screams.

My thing though is that I am pretty much into just "one sound" that I live on 95% of the time and I do roll the volume down if needed. Since I'm not in a bands anymore and just love killer tone at home, either amp works just fine for my current needs.

Actually after demoing the small box for a bit over the weekend I'm not really sure that i needed this amp in addition to the BE100 as I just stick with one "set it and forget it" sound most of the time and just roll down the volume. The BE has more features which I do like alot.

The over all simplicity and the pure tone(s) of the small box are just outstanding though...!

There are lots of these out there. Marshall made a ton of these amps and there are lots out there in unmodded condition anywhere from $900 to $1200.
