Ok, so a JCM800 isn't really vintage, but it's from '87. Wow, I feel old now. ;0 50 watt 2205, sounds ok with the V30 cab, I need to try it with my magic '76 Marshall blackback cab and my Bogner. It sounds good, I like the Jub a bit better. I'm tempted to mod her a bit. :D

I actually did something like that the other day - ran my mesa quad into a stereo chorus into a vht 2/90/2 into two cabs. Was ginormous sounding. I was totally getting speak of the devil tones :)

Now I hear there are "good" years and "bad" for these, later years being better.

Any truth to this?

Congrats Pete!

Thanks Scott. Yeah, the early ones are the ones to stay away from... this is an '87 but it still has a little bit of bleed through on the channels. The earlier ones had worse bleed and also less gain.

The 2205 is one my favorite Marshalls ever. I have owned 3 or 4 of them and a few 2210s over the years. I currently have a 2205 with original white tolex (sold my other '87 in original white tolex last year). '87 is is a very good year for those amps. I have had some from various years and both of my '87s sounded the best. My '88 2210 was killer, too. But, there is something about the 50 watt power section on those particular amps that led me to keep them over the 100 watters.

Cool deal, I ran into one last year for a decent price but was told to back off from several people as it was an earlier model.

Yes!! I bought a 50w combo new in '87 that was awesome. Man I loved that amp.
I didn't know what I had at the time. It was my first amp ever. Had it for about 4 years and played it at least and hour a day. Some days alot more than that  Thought every amp must sound like this so sold it...got some rack stuff. years later I can't get over how good my first amp sounded. I need to find another 50w from '87...that's it!! The hunt begins

NICE!!!! You got the Michael Schenker amp  I've been keeping an eye out for one of these myself. I've seen Schenker up close twice and he always got an awesome tone out of those.

Congrats man, My old 2205 sound awesome, it was completely stock, I just threw an OD-1 in the front and was away.

Ned, you crack me up man!!!!!!!!!

Awesome Pete. I had a white '88 2010 and was my main amp for 12 years. I loved the shit out of that amp.

I must be getting older... it's not nearly as much gain as most of my high gainers, but I'm still digging it and haven't even put a boost pedal in the front yet! :)

There is a tiny bit of channel bleed and I pulled the chassis to verify it's the later/better PCB, it is... I modded it slightly for more low end, and will tweak that a bit, but it's so far a pretty fun amp. Haven't put anything in the fx loop yet though.

Here in a few weeks if I get a chance I want to do some clips of this amp vs the silver jub 50 watt I have. Should be interesting to get everyone's take on it.

Pete
