I know I'm an MTS junkie but haven't had this much fun playing on a new module since the last one (heh)...here's a pic:
That switch on there 3 modes (different mid voicings) make it very flexible. You can equate 'em to 'favourite' settings of the EQ sliders on teh Mark I think.
Top position = high mids/trebly, mid position = "The singing mode", nice throaty too (depending on EQ) amd I think teh bottom mode = low mids "The scooped setting"
Soundwise...sounds like a cross between an Ultra and Ultra Lead with more gain on tap but can get the 'bite' on the top end that's not easy to get/lacking in both of those.
This is the definitive Mesa module to date...and like all of Pete's work sound fantastic at almost every setting of the dial...heck there's still clarity even with everything on 10!
I had initial reservations about one of the modes, it damn near took my head off even through my WGS Greenie/65 cab...but when I switched over to a darker guitar (from my Alder/EMG ESP) it all became clear....of course you can turn the treble down too...LOL..but if you gots a dark mahogany guitar (say an Explorer) then this is a great mode.
Metallica is in here...Whitesnake is in here certainly...'modern' high gain with that distinctive (gobs of lip-smacking gain) liquid feel...I dare say Petrucci is too..but that's not in my fingers!
Randall has had pitches close to teh Mark series tone for quite some time (Ultra, Ultra Lead and UltraXL) but never quite hit the mark (lol)....well I think Pete hit it out of the ballpark with this one....we'll see if Randall gets the Ultra Curve out the door anytime soon...
..oh and although it has insane gain on 10, it still takes a boost like a champ..
