NAD x2 6505

I had a similar tone journey, but with Peters amps. Tried some big name high-end amps and came full circle back to where it all began.
Nice rig btw!

Congrats on finding something you know works for you, and coming around full cicle.

I had a similar journey but with Marshalls, and Marshall flavored amps by others (Bogner and Engl).

For rawness nothing beats my 1959HW; for my favorite Marshall tones, I still can't decide between my Helios Eclipse vs Artist Edition 100.

Cheers!

edit: and my JCM-900 SL-X with 5881; and the JVM410H covers everything Marshall it's probably 80% of all I really need.

I’ve seen a few Marshall lovers do the same.

They seek the Marshall tone but don’t want to buy a Marshall for some reason haha

How do you find the Achilles cab compare tonally to a known entity like a Mesa OS 4x12 for comparison? They're not uncommon here in Aus on the used market, but never had the chance to play through one.

Exotic 4x12s are rare as hens teeth here.

Haven’t tired a Mesa OS. I did ask Achillies to build my 4x12s to Mesa traditional size.

It was a little smaller than their usual size (which is probably closer to Mesa OS)

Their build quality is amazing. Easily at Mesa and Engl level.

I compared my Achillies Typhon 4x12 to my Bogner Helios 4x12.
They were close when it came to cleans and low-gain. I favoured the Bogner slightly for those tones.
But when it came to high-gain, the Achillies was my favorite. The deciding factor may simply have been the speakers (Achillies has Redbacks x Creambacks; Bogner has Greenbacks on top of V30s). But the point is the Achillies is every bit as good as the Bogner in terms of quality and construction.
