killdry is when your EFX disables dry signal out & outputs only wet signal. Pretty much the same thing as having dry/wet mix knob on 100% wet. Due to not having any dry signal going back to your EFX loop you avoid phase issues.

I say, if it sounds good, don't worry about it.

Man, I love how you caught that string being out of tune. It really bugged me too

not sure about killdry (what is that exactly? )feature BUT i did have phase issue early on and the guys on the tc board helped me through it. but that was massive phase issues. i also did an a-b test once i got everything dialed in and couldnt tell difference. can you explain phase issues and killdry for me? thanks mark you rock!

What nbart says. If I set you up with a rig that had a proper mixer and KILLDRY, you would notice the difference

The dry signal still gets converted from Analog to Digital then back to Analog through the G-Sys causing a very slight delay, when that gets mixed with the dry signal from your head through the FX loop it causes a slight phase issue. It may be slight and you may not notice the difference unless you A/B'ed with a rig that had a Line mixer like the Suhr Minimix(II) and an FX unit with a KILLDRY.
Sometimes it simply translates into a better finger to string feeling, especially at gig volumes...for me anyway

Well, I can't really see why he would have any phase issues when he stated that he is using his serial loop. If you know something I don't, please, enlighten me.

Obviously it could be a better idea switching to something like Eventide & going parallel, THAT would make a pretty big difference. Would he prefer it to his current setup or not is a different question.
Better than that I would offer going for a dry/wet rig, but, knowing that he gets his amps miked, I don't see any point in doing that.

You're right, he is using a series loop, there probably isn't phasing issues. I still prefer not having my dry signal converted and converted back again. Just having a decent FX unit(that can shut off the dry signal mix), a good mixer, and running parallel will change things in a good way...in my opinion.
Running W/D or W/D/W is great if you are miking cabs and you have a trusted soundman and the FOH is stereo...unfortunately this isn't always the case in the real gigging world unless you are a mega star and having a major tour going on...a good chance Andy will have that

BTW I am in no way saying the G-Sys is a bad FX unit, I think TC makes great stuff. My preference is a unit that I can run parallel through a mixer and has the ability to kill the dry signal going through it's output. On my pedalboard rig I don't run a mixer and I use units that do NOT have a killdry and it sounds great, I do prefer my rack rig though. It's a very small percentage of improvement....but an improvement nevertheless...of course in my opinion. Some people like catsup on their hotdogs, I prefer mustard.
I would also never plug a vocal mic into an FX unit then into a FOH mixer.....so why do we as guitarists do it with our guitar signal chain?
Then again VH1 broke all the rules and the guitar tone is MAMMOTH.

BTW, have you ever tried the parallel loop on Diezels? The quality on these is top notch, I doubt you would need a mixer. I could be wrong though. Now the loops on my Bogners definitely need improvement.

I must admit that I never gave Diezels much of a chance. I tried the VH4 and Herbert at the same time I tried an OD100...I kept going back to the OD100. I would love to have one at the studio for a week or two to really give it some time. I love the tone the Tool dude gets from his. I live in the frozen wasteland of Canada where Diezels are as rare as the dodo. I had to drive over 2 hours to find one and as nice as Andy Cherna is (Diffusion Audio) I'm sure he doesn't want to listen to me wail for a couple of hours on his Diezels..lol

I could be wrong, but on the latest Tool albums I think I'm hearing a lot of Uberschall mixed with VH4.

I personally was able to find almost every amp I've tried useful. One was better for one thing, the other was better for another thing. I don't really get "this amp sounds like crap crowd". I'm sure your OD100 is a wonderful amp too. I was just pointing out the quality of loops on Diezel amps, which I'm very impressed with.

I too have not owned any amps that sounded like crap.. Marshalls, Egnater, Mesa, CAE, CAA, etc. I have tried amps that I didn't particularly bond with and some that were buzzy, noisey, harsh sounding things when trying to dial in a sound that I wanted. Normally a high quality amp is just that, a high quality amp that shines doing "it's" thing. The catsup and mustard thing again.

I'm sure the Diezel's loop is high quality as Peter has a great rep in the industry...I haven't personally had the chance to try the loop
I haven't heard anything bad about them, that's for sure.

Let me rephrase my Tool comment, I dig the Tool dude's tone from the video clip I saw(and heard)..he had a Diezel and Marshall head on stage. The tone was great and very much like the studio rendition of "The Pot", very nice stuff.
