ok, I freed up the funds to grab EZ Drummer, but with namm going on, I'm nervous about dropping the $ and then either a better version, or a price drop coming after namm. Anyone know if they are doing anything new this year??? Thanks!!

EZ Drummer 2 just came out within the past year so it's highly unlikely they will release something new to replace it. For reference, EZ Drummer 1 came out around 2006.

Webb, thank you!!!!! I'm just nervous to spend, but that makes me not so much, gonna order it up

Any advantage/disadvantage to buying it as a download from Guitar Center? I usually like to have a hard copy, but thinking this is pretty much the norm now. Buying through GC because i have a gift card to use for part of the purchase.

Shouldn't be any problem buying it as a download. Once you register it on the Toontrack site, it will always be available in your account to download along with any updates to the program.

Id buy EZ2 if you are going to buy EZDrummer for the upgraded and on the spot changeable library.

Thanks Maddnotez!! I'm definetly gonna grab ez drummer 2. I had posted here before lookng for suggestions and EZD2 came highly recommended. Ive messed with beatcraft, but have trouble getting patterns together that i like(could be the sounds aren't what I'm thinking ill hear). So I'm hoping to use the feature where you can piece together premade patterns to make a complete song. Hoping to use that til I figure out how to do my own patterns. Really just want drums to play/write guitar parts to so thinking this will work out well.

why would I upgrade from ed1? whats it going to do better ect? thanks

Thanks Scott!!! I've got a GC gift card I have to use, and they are the same price. I'll def be checking out audiodeluxe for other stuff though

2 has new features and stuff. Check out the demo.
I think the upgrade from EZ 1 to EZ 2 is cheaper than if you just buy EZ 2. The upgrade is $99 and EZ 2 is like $150. I totally want Ez drummer 2 after playing with the demo, but I have Addictive with the metal kits and midi packs so it's hard to justify dropping the dough.

I got the EZ2 with the Metal Machine a while ago, previously used the EZ1 with DKFH. I think the EZ2 is a totally different beast! So damned easy to make your own drum patterns, songs, beats... anything. And sounds decent enough too to record a teutonic metal album that sells well too ;) :D.

I have both. EZD2 is a huge improvement, so much easier to find the patterns you are looking for (specially handy when you have lots of libraries). Very easy to write full new songs too.

Don't hesitate to buy from the online store (I have bought a lot of their stuff from there). Very easy to install(move) to a new computer and you don't run the risk of losing things. Toontrack is a very good company in my experience.

EZD2 is on sale at Sweetwater for 150 right now. Expansions for 40. Superior 2 for 180.

Can anyone who owns both Made of Metal ezx and Metal Machine give an opinion? Wife gave me a $80 gift cert, was gonna get made of Metal, but metal machine is on sale, and sounds great to me.

Here are a couple clips which demonstrate each using the same MIDI file:

There are a lot of different kit pieces to choose from for each kit, plus also different mixer presets (which involve more or less effects too). These were done with the default kit pieces and "original mix" mixer presets. So it doesn't speak for the versatility of either, or whether you'd like more pieces in one kit vs. the other. But I feel it does sum up the general difference between the two in terms of what realm each one covers. Metal Machine is more snappy/in your face, Made of Metal is more warm/less produced (maybe "more realistic production", and "more room to produce the sound yourself").

Then again, Made of Metal has some presets that sound more "produced" and "in your face" too. I've uploaded a second clip of that kit here:

It's still less "snappy" and "produced"/"tight", but it's a more "in your face" preset with different kit pieces chosen as well as a different mix approach.

I hope that helps!

My recommendation is to get both. :)

Both of those sounds good. I get the snappy vs realistic comparison. Can you blend both tracks onto one song?
