I use Stubby 2mm picks, the purple ones. I like the attack and you get that Gilbert definition in that you hear the pick attack.

The the purple pick dust looks cool on the RFR 550

Scott and Dan, you probably didn't see my short Ultex-review in the JazzIII- thread.
I LOVE THOSE PICKS! Sweep picking felt easier, pick didn't start changing its angle when playing heavy rhythm stuff and you could feel guitar's strings thru the pick very well because they're so stiff. Couldn't say too much about the tone because strings in my guitar are dead so... Anyways, I prefer those to black JazzIIIs now and the best thing is that ultexes are almost 50% cheaper than black ones.

Very cool Jaakko!!

I recently got a bunch of the 1.50mm Cool picks and they are my new fav pick!! I definitly think that you should get a bunch and try them out, even if you already love the Ultex's! Different picks for different uses

That Lifeson guitar is killer. But for the type of money were talking, and that's ridiculous all on it's own, I'll get with Mr Gutierrez for something special. I mean really, $4500? How much of a sheep do you have to be to buy into that?

About the Les Paul Floyd thing... If they're smart, they'll make it a Studio version. I don't think anyone that appreciates a Les Paul enough to spend $3k on one would want one with a Floyd-Rose. No disrespect intended to anyone that likes those overcomplicated tone suckers. :)

Chris
Personally, I wouldnt be interested in a studio version. I also dont think the Floyd has anything to do with the what someone is willing to pay for the guitar. Its obvious that they are just making a regular production model clearly based off of the Neal Schon signature model and it makes perfect sense, that was an awesome guitar that satisfied the needs of a lot of people. Granted, Floyds arent your thing and they obviously dont do anything for alot of people but there are just as many out there that love them. If anything, this increases their marketability..

Ralphie and I compared my Pauls next to his LP and their really wasnt any discernable tonal difference. Alot of things were taken into consideration when I had it built, we definitely had a target for what I wanted tone wise and it was all about that beefy LP goodness.

Itll be interesting to see what they go for but I dont see it being sub 2-2.5k....

Gibson's way of keeping those dork-o-matic geetars in tune is to either install that robot tuning system or installing a locking nut

Sounds like the LP's that Alex Lifeson's using. Floyd Rose and contoured heal and all.

That was such a good tour :D

But yeah, it's about time in regards to the heel. Very uncomfortable. I played a Studio a few months back, upper access was crap from that heel.

I'll wager that the guitarist in my band will own one!

He loves floyds - addicted to them....

You superstrat guys and you're complaints about fret access on LPs

It just takes a little time with an LP and its not that bad, IMO. Lots of guys play LPs and do just fine with 'em. I think each type of guitar takes a slightly different playing approach to get the goods out of. My old guitar teacher when I was a teenie was a big vintage tele guy and could just make them sing-scream effortlessly. I got my first tele last year ('07) in the spring and it def took some getting used to before I could get what I wanted out of it. I think there is definitely a market for a floyd paul and that's cool. But its not like you can't just adapt to how a stock LP is either. Lots of great records show otherwise ;) I think it would be hilarious if they offered this new LP in some of those crazy ibanez RG colours though :D

If I want a Les Paul, I want a Les Paul. Not a Les Paul shaped guitar with a different neck angle, Floyd-Rose bridge (with valuable wood cut out of the guitar to make it fit), a locking nut, a shaved neck heal, etc... Ehhhhh, I'm just a bitter 'ole Les Paul fan I guess. I love LPs for what they are, which is a kick ass solid mahogany sustaining rock and roll machine.

Chris
LMAOO!!! yes you are a bitter old LP fan!!! FWIW, Mine pauls are are heavy ass sustaining solid mahogany R&R machines, that happen to have Floyds..

To each his own, its all good...
