I will check him out....thx

check out Landry Amps. As good or better than many of the choices here.

Sorry just noticed you listed it above.

I'm gas-ing for a Landry myself. The clips I've heard sound fantastic and the price is great! Been emailing with Bill Landry about it. Seems like a great guy and responds quickly......

*edit*.....aaaaannnnnddd I found one on Reverb last night and bought it with my best offer!

I recently tried an EL-34 Shiva.
The cleans were great.
The dirt side I thought was very polite.
Doesn't have the roar and crunch my old '78 JMP 2203 has...

How bout a mesa roadking 2. it has 4 channels, 2 kinds of power tubes, and 2 loops (i think, i don't remember).

Very, very, very close to getting the Mark IV...... the Landry G3 still tempts me...tho it's quite a bit more money. Safe to assume a decision will most likely be made this week... if not in a day or 2. Thanks again for all your input and opinions... appreciate it. Happy Holidays :)

It does sound great.... way outside my budget tho. I HAVE to stay below $1600.... actually hoping to be more around $1000. I just don't want to sacrifice tone or anything else for $500 or so ya know.... but $1600 is my cap... and thats pushing it. Cheers Gary

I love splawn, I have two QR100s.
The suhr PT100 is sick and that's the amp I'd go with.
But I guess it is very expensive. I mby suggest waiting a bit longer till you save enough money, seeing that you need somthing specific. That way you get what you really want. Also just to add, I recently bought a Friedman modified Marshall super lead 100 watt. I bought it from a friend and he had it on Craigslist for less then two grand. I got such a good deal on this kitchen sink plexi that it blew my mind. And I was about to jump on an amp that I know i would have tried to sell less than what I bought it for.
Good luck man!

I've been thinking about a Landry for a year and a half , if you get one of those we need a full review with clips .

Yep... still debating. Let you know :)

I've had my Landry for almost 2 weeks. I've played it every day since I got it, which is rare because generally I'm pretty lazy! I've owned 4 Friedmans, Bogners, Splawns, Marshalls and racks of stuff. The Landry puts a smile on my face like no other! The tone and the feel, no compromises. I found it used at a decent price....

You're not helping... or maybe you are. Glad you are digging it... especially against the amps you've owned.... which is very comparable to mine.

if you're digging a MKIV at the moment i'll chime in and mention i think the MKV is better, especially considering your track record in liking modded marshalls.

the MKIV is very versatile, but still retained that mesa 'thing' that you either like or dont like. its not a recto, but its still fairly compressed and squishy to me. if you dial it back it opens up, but i always felt it lost some of that good mesa bottom that way. i also always HATED the shared eq thing.

the MKV is the mesa for people that don't like mesas. it's very open and uncompressed if you dont want it to be. ch 2 is the open air 'angry ac/dc' channel that you can boost if you wanna send it over the edge. super versatile channel on its own. then you goto ch 1 if you need the uber clean thing, and ch 3 if you really want the gooey lead petrucci thing (sometimes i dig it, sometimes i just boost ch2)

all that being said, i'd still go with the shiva 20th. 2 channels are just simpler, and that boost is to die for. i've had lots of boogies, but for me their undoing is their complexity. for a guy like you who's gigging often i just would never feel comfortable going out over and over with all those switches and buttons. i've seen the inside of the mkiv's and v's and they are just terrifying to behold.

FWIW i started with fender/boogie style amps and switched to modded marshall types (cornford/suhr) and have been very content for years now.

Thanks..... I think I will staying in the Marshall camp afterall.... not definite yet but very close to making decision. I know I love the modded marshall/boosted marshall tones... also dig the simpler layouts as well without all the tweaking. Cheers
