Hookers and blow. The key is not to use a credit card.

I tell squeamish and wobbly husbands that are contemplating gear purchases while shaking with fear that it is easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. :D

And here is the line that you can say to your wife that may go into some gray areas, "Oh, you haven't seen this (these) before?". ;)

"Clean up that room young man".

..then play her a tune you wrote just for her.
You needed the new gear to make sure it sounded right.

My wife is usually the one egging me on to buy gear, but I'm not sure she'd be a fan of a full stack.

Congrats, cool as can be! I would suggest covering with a dropcloth and tell her you are working on a surprise wardrobe cabinet for her.

Good God man, at least put the cabs side by side so she's not walking in on amp that's taller than her.

Why do you think I run an online business? ... so I can create a slush bank account on the side with no visibility

Just got this from Sweetwater. Maxed out my Sweetwater credit account. My wife has no clue. I just stuck it in the rack with the rest of my gear. She didn't even notice.

Soooo......which one do you like better?? You had to know that question would show up.....

My then fiancé absolutely hated an Orange 2x12 I bought a while back because I already had a number of cabs to begin with and most importantly, the tolex didn't match the Mills 4x12 it's sitting on or the Bogner 4x12 next to it - or anything else in the room at all, for that matter. Little did she know, I'd hidden the engagement ring I was about to propose to her with inside of it along with it's certificate of authenticity, etc.

When I proposed, she asked me how long I had it and where I hid it. I told her and she looks at it completely differently now. I think she might even actually like the damn thing.

So... If there's still time, maybe you can pull a magic purse and pair of shoes from your stack to level the playing field and ease the tension a bit.

First impressions... Gotta give the edge to the Kemper. It sounds pretty amazing. I'm a tube guy. I only use this stuff for home use but if I can get the Kemper to sound good live with my band my lower back would love me again.

I always get a chuckle out of this chart. When in doubt refer to the chart.

Do you ever run through a traditional guitar cab or do you stick with FRFR speakers?

Like you, I power an AXE-FX II with a Matrix amp, but I play through a 4x12 recto cab. I've heard mixed feedback about running the Kemper through a traditional cab, but I've always been curious!

I've tried the Axe through a Mesa Recto cab. I couldn't get it to sound worth a damn. I'm not a tweaker. I like your basic knobs on an amp. If I can't get a good tone like that then it's not the amp for me. Haven't had a chance with the Kemper yet. Currently I run both through the powered XiTone wedge you see on top there. For bedroom and recording I can get both to sound great. It's the band volume where it seems to loose it for me. That whole Fletcher–Munson curves thing. The Kemper seems easier to dial in a tone with the limited amount of time I've had with it. I dig my Axe-Fx as well though. Both are great units. Deep learning curves on both and I just don't currently have the time to invest in tweaking either at gig volumes to get it to my gigging standards.

Cool. That's kinda the impression I have..Kemper a little more realistic. But I know the Axe can be great but it seems to need ALL the right pieces, where the Kemper is a bit less needy so to speak.
