Quick back story. My favorite cab that I have played through (and own) is the Mesa Standard Rectifier cab with the Vintage 30's. Everything always sounds great through it. I have a stock early 80's vertical input 2204 that I would consistantly run with the Mesa. Though it sounded great I still wanted to complete the amp with its matching B cab. A couple of jcm 800 cabs over the years have sounded great and all seemed to have the early version G12T-75's with the 1777 cones. Very 80's metal sounding. I know many aren't too fond of the 12T's, and I was one of those until I heard and eventually played through one with the old version 12T's. I finally found a cab that fit the bill on the GC website a few days ago after searching for many months. After about 3 emails someone at the store finally contacted me with the pics I needed. It's in fairly good shape and the price was very reasonable. Shipping was only $30 from AZ to PA. It should be here in about 5 days

I see it the codes. Congrats.

I remember way way back early mid 80's the stock 1960 a&b cabs did sound really nice.

Nothing like today.

25-40 shipping is all I've paid for any cab from GC, and they've come from as far as Florida. Those older 75s can sound perfect with a Marshall, like 65s or GBs can. There's a reason Yngwie used to search them out, along with the 72 JMP 50s.

What is the cut off year on 75s ? I have 3 JCM 900 cabs (one A and two Bs) and I think they sound pretty good...not sure what dates they are or cone numbers are on the speakers, but this thread has sparked my interest.

I've read that the 12t-75's came out in 84/85 and have had many changes since. I may be wrong but I believe that the first year had the stickers that are in my pic. I've heard some 900 cabs with later 12t-75's that also sounded good. I had a 2000 2x12 with 12t's and didn't think it sounded good. I'm not sure when they stopped using the 1777 greenback cones.

I have a beat up Fawn 4x12 cab I got empty (originally a 280 watt cab from the medallion on the back) and I put Greenbacks in it, it's my favorite cab...but the 900 cabs don't suck at all. I also have 2 2x12 cabs with English V30s in them that sound great.

All 1960a and b standard cabs still come with 12t-75's, but they are vastly different sounding compared to the originals or even the 900 cabs. I think they really began changing for the worst around when the JCM 2000's came out.

The ones with the vents came out in 84, and were changed in 85 sometime. I've had an 85 with no vents, and now have one with. The vented ones sound the most like a GB, but any 80s 75s sound really good to me. The 900s, had one good one and one not so good.

Do you have a pic of these vented speakers? Weren't they also 15 ohm?

They are 15. This is an old pic, but you see the vents just like 65s.

Funny, Boogie 90 watters have vents but the Celestion 80s don't (which the Boogies are the same as supposedly), and the 75s have both vented and unvented ones...

Would that correspond to the switch to China from England perhaps ?

Nicely broken-in G12T-75s from the '80s are (were?) one of the best speaker deals going. Please cease this praise before you drive up the price and I can no longer afford them. ;)

I have the same speakers in my JCM 900 cabinet, and haven't found anything that sounds as good as them.

I am embarrassed to admit that I prefer that cabinet and speaker combination better than the Mesa Thieles I have with the EVM 12L speakers. Soon to be posted...

I think it depends on the amp and the player, Zakk sounds damn good through EVs, Jake E Lee not so much...

The cab finally came in today. It sounds fantastic. The question I have is why is this cab not as loud as my newer 1960BV loaded with Marshall branded V30's? It's quite a difference. Maybe I should check both cabs to make sure they should both run at 16ohms.

Edit: BV cab measuring 14.5 ohm and the 800 cab 14.2 ohm.

Check the dB rating for each speaker? I don't know them off the top of my head, but that may be why the V30 cab sounds louder (because V30s may actually be louder!).

EDIT: I just looked it up. V30s are 100 dB, and G12-65s are 97 dB. My guess is that's why they sound noticeably quieter.

V30's rated at 100db, 12t's 97db. I'm wondering if it's just the boost in mids of the V30's causing the perceptive increase in volume.

I have a quad of these as well, mine date from July of 1984. My cab actually has the 65's 260w logo on the back panel, they are 15ohms and sound nothing like any version T75's I've heard over the years. They actually sound like 65's with more top end or Greenbacks but without the cone distortion.
