Back in March I ordered an Omega Granophyre (supposed to ship this week actually) and have been patiently waiting for it.
Many people asked me if I ordered a cab to go with it. I didn't as I already have many cabs I like, and many of them were either very cheap or free to me after some clever maneuvering (buying package deals and selling what I didn't want)
After a couple months, I decided to hit them back up and see if we could work anything out, as I had multiple trusted sources tell me their cabs are on a whole different level than most others. After some discussion, I decided to pull the trigger, and ordered a cab that would match my Granophyre.
It showed up on Friday, but I finally got some time to play with it today. The speakers are obviously brand new, and Michael at Omega insists they need about 20 hours of good loud play to be fully broken in, but I'm already impressed with this cab!
I opted for the DV-77 Top / VM12-65 bottom speaker combination. Initial sound impressions are very good. My buddy also ordered one at the same time I did, and he got a chance to play his first. He said his sounded pretty dark, but I honestly feel mine sounds well balanced. The right amount of highs to allow the top end sizzle I like, mids are modern and seem to be focused lower than your traditional V30, but not so much that there isn't cut. The cab is front loaded, but the low end is huge, yet punchy. It's not insanely tight, but it's certainly tight enough for my liking, and I tend to like tighter tones than most.
Construction is absolutely top notch. The tolex is perfectly smooth, with no visible seams or imperfections. Grill cloth is perfectly aligned (had issues with Splawn and bogner on this before) piping is also executed perfectly. The front stained ash panel looks fantastic as well, with absolutely no imperfections. Steel handles are not the cheap, thin formed kind, they are multi-piece construction, thick, and rugged feeling.
Overall, I'm extremely impressed with this thing, and super happy with the purchase. I ran my 5150III EL34, Splawn Nitro, and Mesa Badlander 50 through it, and all 3 amps sat with it just fine. The front loaded nature really helped with the Nitro's massive and sometimes out of control end, and the combo made for some of the punchiest palm mutes I've ever experienced.
