Besides the One Night in San Francisco stuff, I'm not that familiar with DiMeola's music. What album should I get first?

I prefer his earlier electric days myself when he was using Les Paul's. I have Elegant Gypsy albume and it does kick mucho ass.

Go check out some early Al Di Meola on Youtube....dude has a lightning fast pick hand, I love fast his muted runs and odd timing rhythms.

I saw him in the late 80's in Houston, was blown away by his precision with the keyboard/piano...insanely fast and and intricate stuff in unison and harmony. Jaw dropping experience and the guy was effortless in his execution. Randy Rhoads and Yngwie Malmsteen were the only other two players I saw live that made me be in awe like that

Wow. I just stumbled on to this Youtube Video.LIVE.

I had always thought he was better on Acoustic but was not fully aware of his work.

I love his Tones here perfect for Fusion and I don't remember his Vibrato being this good.

Some really great playing here and it's more colorful than most chops fusion stuff, cool Latin percussion..

I remember being floored by his chops back then but don't remember him being THIS good on electric....

And listen to the beautiful LP thru a Marshall Tone !

Amazing how good some Guys are at a young age.....

"Elegant Gypsy" and "Casino" are the best IMO for both songs and fierce playing
For great latin jazz compositions, "Tirami Su" has some great writing and beautiful harmonies

I like "Kiss My Axe" personally as my fave. I do like Casino and Elegant Gypsy as well though.
