I prefer his earlier electric days myself when he was using Les Paul's. I have Elegant Gypsy albume and it does kick mucho ass.
Go check out some early Al Di Meola on Youtube....dude has a lightning fast pick hand, I love fast his muted runs and odd timing rhythms.
I saw him in the late 80's in Houston, was blown away by his precision with the keyboard/piano...insanely fast and and intricate stuff in unison and harmony. Jaw dropping experience and the guy was effortless in his execution. Randy Rhoads and Yngwie Malmsteen were the only other two players I saw live that made me be in awe like that
