How about the Splawn Street rod and the extension cab with another 1/12 in it ?
I got this very set up being built right now.
It will give you the 2/12's and be okay to move around ?
They are even going to build an 2/12 extension cab in the near future a little bird tells me. ;)

Great recommendations but even the Lucky 13 50W 2 x 12 is $2635. Anybody heard about the quality problems with the Bogner Alchemist combo? I'm leaning towards the Switchblade--I have experience with it (the head version) and it has more on-board FX than the Alchemist.

Bogner sure does sound good, though....

Sure do love me some Vintage Modern, too...

A friend of mine wanted a combo and I found one cheap on CL, so he bought it,
he likes it, it has good tone, if you like the 6L6 tone.

he's had no issues so far, and uses it every week in a church band.
I could find out which church if your blasphemous soul wants to visit and hear what it sounds like live.
I know he lives in Reseda, so might be near there.

what I discovered with that amp though, is that through the open back combo, it is big and bubbly, but through a closed back cab, that was a really nice much tighter amp!

I personally think I would prefer a Closed Back combo amp, to an open back one, for MY style of playing.
that's why I recently sold the Tremoverb I had just picked up.

So what amp is is that your friend bought?

I thought that was obvious.
sorry

the Bogner Alchemist.

GC was blowing them out recently, like $4-600 bucks a combo

Get a 2x12 cab and your head options are limitless.Easier to carry too. BTDT

Easier to carry and it gives you much for flexibility. If you add an amp later on you can use the same cab, etc...

2x12 combos are the worst possible combinations. I rather have a 1x12 combo, and if need be... mic'd up

Looks like it may go the way of the Switchblade--anyone want to buy a Mesa Mark V Combo? Full paperwork... "Made in USA" sticker still on the top!

I had a Switchblade head, ditched it after a few gigs, just felt lifeless and un tube like, no OOMPH !! :(

DT50 2x12 combo Most flexible amp out there and Bogner design

Weird, I had a Switchblade head and LOVED it--hated to see it go, but Tumeni amps. I found that the SW didn't like certain speakers and had to find the right pairing. Went with the 100 combo so we'll see how it does.

Mesa Electra Dyne boosted with an OD pedal. You can find those combos for around $1,000 used. It's the only combo I've played that has a real thick ballsy tone with a lot of bottom.

I was gonna throw this one out there to.

Man, I have to agree with some of the rest here, I would use a head and cab. I would like to know about what kind of music you need to cover, by the looks of the amps you have picked out would be hard rock to metal?? Lots of great(heavy-ass)combos to pick from.

Yeah--didn't want to deal with pedals. When the 100C arrives I'll do clips and see how it stacks up. Of late, I've been noticing that I'm getting REALLY great results with pedals, but... I kind of hate on pedals unless they're in a rack attached to a MIDI-controlled loop. I like front-of-stage simplicity--my ideal is a MIDI controller (All Access) and MAYBE a WAH or Volume pedal.

I loved my Switchblade head once I found the right speakers for it. Hated on V30's and H30's--Liked G12T-75s and G12S-50s. The 100C comes with Eminence Rockerdriver 60's. We'll have to see how those stack up, but I can easily see changing them. All in all, I find that Hughes & Kettner amps are the most sensitive to what speakers you're using (in addition to extreme response to treble frequencies).

The stuff I'll be playing is kind of all over the place, so the SB 100C seems like the easiest, all-in-one solution. Great cleans, crunch, lead, ultra-gain, built-in reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, tremolo. Included phantom-powered MIDI stage board. I may change the speakers to my liking, and may change the pre tubes to Mullard reissues like I did in my SB head (or maybe change them for Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+ like Papa Diezel recommends). Other than that, I think it'll work out well.

The proof will be in the clips... stay tuned.

A HUGE thanks to all who took the time to weigh in and provide experience, opinions, advice, direction, etc. It is GREATLY appreciated and I am proud to be part of such a great community.

Play it cuz you love it!!

I'd rather lug a head and 412 around than most of the 212 combo's I've tried. At least you can make 2 trips. Try a head and 212 or a rack and stereo 212 which is what I'm doing currently.

If you really want a 212 combo consider the Egnater Tourmaster. Some people don't like them and they are loaded with features which means more stuff to potentially breakdown but I liked the one I tried.

This !!!! 2x12 combos are heavy !! Much rather have head & 2x12 cab, or 1x12 combo.

I quite liked the Alchemist while I had it... I wonder why I sold it...

Have you looked at Brunetti? They make some really good amps!

Or Blackstar?

I use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe which is just amazing really. Takes to pedal very well too.

If I ever wanted a 2 x12 combo I would just get a 2 x12 cabinet and use it with a E.H. 44 Magnum a long with any preamp of choice..
