think the most popular answer for just a little hotter, is i beleave the Duncan Custom, or Custom Custom, whichever one is a little hotter A2 than a 59.
Some of the best clips over at Metro are done with a JB, so it really is the hands.
my pick would be to find a used Warren DeMartini pickup. i suck and like the hotter pickups.
I should hit the bottle, hard.
I like the JB but looking for something a tad more tame, just a smidge.

Funny thing is that I pulled out Vh1 through FW and listened hard for several days and I have come to my own conclusion that Ed's tone was imperfect in all of the right ways. Low end is loose but with his pick attack it is cool, chirps are from the lack of gain which make them cool, and he did go to the edge and brought it back just enough.
IMO no marshall modder has EVH in a box, it is just a plain good plexi with the right combo of stomps and studio grease and Ed's approach and pick attack.
Curt, if I saw this sooner I would have called ya but a builder of epic proportions and ill repute got ahold of me and stated......
" Digi my man, I have the pup for you and due to your monster internet posting cred I must have you as a user of my pups!!!!!"
Price is right and built very cool with shielded wiring just like the old PAFs![]()

IMO there is no need to chase around the EVH thing with different builders for a specific platform, a good plexi will get you close enough. I don't disagree with going with someone, just do not think you have to go that route.
Ratter posted a clip one time of his 1959HW that was very close as is.
With all the shit going on with flakey builders, guys buying amps just to copy others work, etc I am done with that shit as well other than a few select individuals.
Those clips do rock though![]()
