Youch!! What a nightmare! This is a perfect example of why I only use Pay Pal when buying online, so that I have some recorse in retrieving my money. Although I'm sure that's not what you want to hear.

I'd go ahead and contact your credit card company, but also tell him that it's his responsibility to come up with that money in full ASAP and not in a payment plan. This is a really sucky situation and I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.

did you go through ebay?

what about paypal?

thats why they charge a 3% fee, just in case the sale goes south and they have tracking info over the money as well as release/hold times to prevent someone taking your money and running with it.

basically, he stole it from you.

get his full name, address, and all regarding emails. i'd tell him he has x amount of days to get the money back before you report it to the authorities.

if you have no written proof via email confrontations, then you are pretty much fucked. thats why paypal/egay track the way they do, to prevent $3,000 from flowing through your fingers like water, and then no-one being able to back you up if something goes wrong.

it indeed it is the latter, you need to work this out on your own. basically, its a hard lesson to learn if the latter has happened. im sorry such a thing could happen, but i believe he needed quick cash for bills, lied about a SLO, and now will pay you back like your a banking company.

he doesnt pay any interest, and you get royally screwed.

depending on the state would depend on how it can be prosicuted. you can make a claim for a court hearing but you would just be spending more money.

i always use paypal. i dont mind the fee, its there for my safety and the person im sending it to as well. i dont mind working with people on paying the fee either, just as long as it gets paid.

good luck. you know what to do, and i wouldnt waste any time doing it whichever decision you make. weeks turn to months, months to years, and he could blow you off and you will never get your money back.

good luck bro. again sorry you got scamed.

Yeah sucks after all this time the one deal I didn't think would be a problem ended up being one. I should've caught the red flag when the guy said his paypal was acting up, but I checked out some of his history in the past and hes done a few deals here and a few other places so I thought it would be fine..

thats just terrible news.

im not sure about the officials part of it. not sure what else to suggest man :dunno: , hope he's at least honest and gets your money back to you.

If it makes you feel any better I just sent a forumite on here and HC some cash through pay pal for an amp and I'm really on pins and needles as to if this dude's legit....I've no reason to think otherwise so far but it's always nerve racking to me to do big deals on the forums.

If he's a member here on RT you might want to consider contacting the moderators and seeing if they won't contact him and explain that if he doesn't do his utmost to repay all the money as quickly as possible that he will be (A) Banned and (B) his name will be stickied on the buyer/selling forum as a dude not to do business with. I don't know what the moderator's policy is on this sort of thing but I know Brad (rareguitar), Gainzilla, and samhill seem to but upstanding guys. It's always been my opinion that those of us on these forums that want to do good deals and are responsible for our deals need to stick together.

Again, sorry this happened to you. I don't know how you're not ready to kill at this point, but I for one would like to know who this dude is so that I know not to deal with him in the future.

Shitty thing to happen to one of the nicest guys I know.

The guy is a fucking tool, and as I told you, I'd make sure his name was out there so he didn't fuck anyone else.

Good luck, bro!

Is there no way to cancel the cashiers check if you tell your bank it was fraud?

Thanks guys :) I'm too slammed at work right now to even do much about it. Going to be a long day at work. I'll see how this thing pans out

Thats the thing I was wondering about, not sure if they can do anything about it if it's been cashed already, but I can't do anything about the credit card or bank check until Monday morning when the bank is open again.

Damn!

Sorry to hear about this and I hope you can have the other party make it right. Not for nothing but I for one would like to know this person in case I think he is trust worthy if this does not pan out.

I will leave it Will to decide if he wants to name the name. I know who it is and it is not a active user here with less than a 100 posts and not active in over a month on rig-talk. Seems to be more of a HCAF guy.

Sorry to hear this Will. I was just checking in and I read this. I don't need to tell you this but something sounds fishy to me. If anything got lifted from my car, I would have filed a report pronto plus I would have scanned the report in and sent you a copy. On another note, when I sell and amp to a person I never spend a dime of anyones money until I know that A) the amp got there safely and B) the person is happy. Somethings not kosher here for sure IMHO. i hope you get your $$ back and I'm bummed for you.

I am good with that. For me I am really picky who I buy from and knock on wood my luck as been very good.

I am the same as Ralph, when I sell something I will not spend the money until I hear that the other party is 100% happy. When I sold my Jackson SL-1 I had to sit on $1300 for a week cause the guy was on vacation

Sorry to hear this man. I had a similar situation with a fellow forumite and mods helped me to straighten the transaction.
Hope you get this resolved soon.

I guess it's bound to happen at least once, this just happened to be a few hundred transactions later
