Get a Profire2626, because you can't properly reamp with a Profire610, if you ever plan on doing something like that. The conversion on the 2626 is also ace, and worth the price jump.

The 2626 is a minimal upgrade from the 610, and you get 8 preamps, so if you ever decided you wanted to record your band practice, or a real drum kit, you could.

I know several friends with a 2626, and it's one of the only things I recommend aside from the Focusrite Saffire series, and the RME Firewire series.

True, but then again, this is a seemingly beginner setup with a limited budget. I'd say get the basics that work well and if you grow further than what they offer you, move on to bigger and better. But make your mistakes and experience the learning curve on the basic less expensive stuff.

Shit, today's cheap stuff still beats the digital renaissance stuff of the mid to late 90's that was in the kilobuck range of price!! And look at the music produced then

Peace,
V.

PS - FWIW, I bought a Zoom H4n, it comes with Cubase LE5, and with it I can do multi track recording, straight up cab recording, stereo, high-def, plus 2 XLR inputs for auxillary mics... Dude, this is the entire enchilada for $300.00 and is COMPLETELY interfaceable with any OS. I mean, I've got a lot of studio shit hanging in my recording/session space, and I bought this little gem for xmas to me   AND I'M LOVING IT!!!!!!! K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid!! Who woulda thunk it?!?!?! :D

If I could find an used Profire 2626, I might get it over a brand new profire 610

Resale value should be higher too
thanks for the hint

well I already own a Splawn Nitro amp which I'd like to record
What will the eleven rack do for that?
I thought it was a digital amp modeling like the axe-fx?

Well, you can use its mic pre to record it. You could also record a dry track simultaneously and have some fun reamping. You can record your vox thru it as well.

Yes, it's digital amp modeling like the axe, but the axe lacks the audio interface and is considered to be ancient technology.

How is the AxeFX considered ancient technology, Mr Trollsalot?

What is it, half a decade old hardware, Mr. I Can't Find Anyone to Play With Even Though I Live in a City of 4 Million Peeps and Therefore the Music Scene Sucks There?

You're seriously a complete fucking moron.

EDIT: Brother.

Heh. I wonder why you're having trouble hooking up with someone in a city of millions, bro.

May I suggest the Eleven Rack as the solution to your problem?

I know, I should know better than that. I was doing pretty good for a bit

I'm still coming back to this thread, still haven't pulled a trigger

It's very confusing to determine which piece will work with my current computers as well as a new computer I plan on acquiring

lol, I am considering Eleven, I may need to do some headphone recording and I'm not able to spring 2k for a fractal

Or I could go for one of the above pieces and use my mts amp direct out + grab some IRs (?)
Decisions, decisions

I think it's important to remember when searching around for recording gear, that some engineers (not flaming anyone here) are 10 times more obsessed with gear than guitarists are.

Your best bet is usually to buy the best you can afford. And preferably something that you can expand later on should the need arise.
Also, if it's only for demo purposes there is a ton of cheap stuff that will more than suffice. It's a real jungle out there, so just try and not get carried away. You will often be hard pressed to actually notice the differences (if you are not a hardcore engineer), or even be able to use them to your advantage.

I don't even know if that made sense...

Pretty much this.
