Ok, i am so not certain about doing this.

A guy wants to trade me a natural EBMM EVH for my purple non faded one.

I know the natural is more rare as they made less but non faded purple ones are hard to come by also. Both are almost mint. The natural has more birdseye in the neck, mine is a quilt top, his is a flame......

I cannot make up my mind.

If you personally like the Natural better then it would be a good trade if they are in equal condition. If you are unsure and still want the Natural maybe buy the natural and then put the purple up for sale. I always though the purple was rare as you say. Maybe sell the purple one to Intense Jim who loves purple.....

I like them equal but i like the neck better on the natural cause of the intense birdseye.

I think they made 400 naturals and about 1200 purple or something like that.

Quilt vs flame...???

Any experts on these guitars here on RT?

I dont want to make a bad move on this one.

Natural looks a lot nicer to me, neck and body

Unless you can get a guaranteed ridiculous amount more for the purple one to a collector then it would have to come down to personal preference IMO. I haven't followed the EBMM axis market since I traded my 2001 Axis for an amp back in 2013. The market wasn't too strong then but Purple might be worth it to a collector. Good luck, I like the Natural flame one myself.

I think the flame tops were alot more rare than quilts with EBMM.

When I think of that guitar, the first one that comes to mind for me is the amber colored one because that is the first one I saw Eddie with. :)

Coming from an EVH-fanboi standpoint, the purple looks more like that period to me. On top of that, the quilt top kicks all types of ass and looks awesome. When it comes to stuff like this, "value" only goes so far. Like others have mentioned, you gotta go with which one you love on a personal level. For me, the colored ones are more EVH.

I'd probably keep the purple one. It probably will fade though, and when it does, having a quilt will make it look pretty cool. I had a faded purple one that looked like a trans black/olive snakeskin finish. Wish I could find a photo, but I traded it long before digital cameras were common. I have blue and sunburst quilts now and they are so badass. But I know the blue one will fade one day.

You’re being sold a duck
Natural is far more prevalent than unfaded purple - if it hasn’t faded by now, it never will
Natural is also the least popular colour for buyers, which may be why there are less of them, and will command about the same price as a faded purple. Unfaded purple is hard to find - I know, as I took many years to track one down
Stick with yours

That purple will fade if it gets too much sunlight. My blue one has a slight, light green hue to it, but I've had it for 20 years and not kept it in a room with a lot of sunlight, never gigged with it outdoors. Sunlight is the enemy of the EBMM EVH finish.

Thanks man, i think this sums it up. I will keep my purple, but that neck on the natural is crazy cool. Mine has less figuring.

I also have an amber one. I will try and buy it from him, 3 is better than 2!!!!

Ok guys, a big thank you for all your input. I will follow the main consensus here, keeping the purple. Had it since 95. Always kept in the case and babied all it's life. Love that guitar.

Would love to get the natural though, the neck is super nice. We ll see.

Purple all the way. I don't look the natural finish, or the maple top on that particular guitar.

Good move. Years back I traded my old 90 Hamer USA Centaura for a Jackson Soloist..the Hamer was my main gigger for almost 20 yrs and had a ton of patina, bumps and bruises some of which I remember...like drunk girls dancing to close and hitting my mic stand which then hit the guitar..lol...
Bad move on my part. Been regretting it ever since.

You're welcome
I've been paying attention to the market on these for a long time
having had many, I am now down to one UF purple flame
a heavily quilted amber is the only other one I'd like to have, so you have the perfect pairing IMO

btw, a warning to all potential owners is that there is no support for these from the manufacturer
I tried to source bridge saddles and came up without a solution
