Need opinions on 1x12 8-ohm cab with 100 watt handling

Yeah, the older T75s do sound different. I've got a set of the vented ones from '84 and a couple sets from '87 including some skunk-backs. They're better than the new ones, but still just a little too scooped sounding for me. For my tastes, I just like the K100s and 65s better.

See, I like the scooped-ness of the T75s. That is what gives them that 90s thrash type sound. The presence could be less fizzy, but I find that easy to tame with the presence control on the amp. Way easier than say taming the upper mid spike on the V30.

If I wanted a less fizzy, more middy T75, I would just get a K100, lol. That is basically what they are.

I’m completely in agreement with JYD above. The Mesa 3/4 back 1x12 is the biggest sounding, with the most thump you’ll find in a 1x12. I have a pair of these as well as the 1x12 Recto cubes, 1x12 Thiele’s and 1x12 Lone Stars as well as a pair of 2x12 Recto Horizontal cabs. The Mesa 3/4 back 1x12‘s put out nearly as much low end thump as the 2x12 Rectos. They are just killer cabs. No idea why Mesa discontinued them.
It’s tragic they discontinued these.

FWIW, I agree with the Thiele and doubting you'd blow the MC90. I believe those are Mesa's version of the Classic Lead, which is also a good sounding speaker. Brighter than the K100, but not fizzy, either.

I think that the CL and the T75 are related, with the main difference being the magnet size. I think the heavier magnet helps bring back some of the upper-mids that I miss in the T75s. I'd have to look at the specs and construction to be sure, but my ears tell me they're in the same family as far as Celestions go.
The CL and T75's sound very different, IMO. The CL somewhat neutral, yet articulate. It has a punchy low mid-range, yet clear and much less scooped than the T75 that's fizz city at lower volumes. T75s really need cranked to sound good. I personally love the Mesa MC90's. They're an even better CL80. I ran 2 Thieles with many amps for about 10 years. Several Marshalls, Mesas, Laney, Randall, you name it. They always delivered great tone and punch, less coloring. It takes your amp's true tone, and articulates it well.

Yep, that's what I think, too... your description is spot on. I've got MC90s in a couple of cabs and love them. I don't own any CL80s at the moment, but I'd get the MC90 if I wanted another one.

T75's really smooth out and punch at higher volume. They're a great speaker and a great match for a mid-heavy Marshall. They've been the industry standard in the 1960's for decades for a reason. Just wouldn't be my pick in a 1x12.

Yeah, I really need to find a 16ohm for one of my Friedman 1x12's.

I put a 150w Texas Heat in my 1x12. I put it on an Orange 412 and run them both together. Just a great sound. Clear crunch up top and big lows pushing at the bottom.
