I'm coming to realize that now haha...it'll probably be the Axe or the HT-5 with a bunch of pedals maybe.

Do you think that Axe sounds better with a SS power amp or tube? Is there even a point in getting a tube power amp for the Axe in an apartment?

Get the HT-5 for fun, to play whenever your neighbors are out. Axe in the loop of the ht-5 might be a cool combo. But if you are as volume restricted as I am I would used the money from the ht-5+pedals and get some nice studio monitors and headphones for the Axe FX. Get a tube amp for the Axe if you are going to play live.

Just get the Axe

Now the question becomes which Axe:P

And which setup...powered monitors or power amp + cab (and from that, tube or SS power amp)

Another vote for the Blackstar HT-5. Great low volume/bedroom amp for noodling around on without disturbing the neighbors.

I think you were sold on the Axe-FX before you even written this post.

No not totally. I just wanted to hear some opinions. I do, though, would like to know everyones stance on Axe+Powered Monitors vs. power amp and cab..

Or maybe a tube pre amp with a SS power amp? That should be able to get that cranked sound at low volume....

But I have no experience with this...anyone chime in?

Is it me or is a $2200 preamp/processor with a pair of headphones overkill for a bedroom jam?

Hey man that's the E570...

The E530 is 550 U.S. plus I'll probably do some recording in the future so it'd b nice for that as well. Plus, it has a 1.5 watt built in power amp so a power amp may not even be needed. There's a bunch of youtube clips of it, sounds pretty brutal.

Thinking about the Engl E530 into my powered monitors....
The frequency compensated outputs are horrible. You would need to run through some impulses or DI hardware like the Palmer PDI-09. The POD HD now comes in a bean and sounds great with active monitors. The Blackstar HT-5 and an effects processor, such as the Nova System would also be an excellent option.

I forgot about the onboard 1.5w poweramp honestly. I've never used that feature, but I'm going to check it out tonight through a VHT Fatbottom 412. If you are going to be shopping for the E530, I've got one along with a Z4 footswitch for 500 USD, including PayPal and shipping fees.

I have a presonus audiobox for an interface but was planning on upgrading. Would the E530 into the interface into the monitors be ok?
Yeah, that's how I used mine usually, through impulses or Amplitube 3.

Any opinions on the Spider Valve/Vypyrs?

Great sounding but, DEFINITELY not made to use as a low volume bedroom amp. I have a Spider Valve mk II HD100. I think you should get an HT5 as many have already suggested.

That sounds a bit more reasonable. I was referring to the AxeFX. I may need to check out the E530.

Another vote for the e530 + ir or the pod hd or amplitube

if you like the e530 the screamer 50 actually sounds pretty good at low volumes

The e530 sounds right up my alley as I want the "real" thing and not a POD. I could always run some pedals before it or something like the nova system for more tones, and if I needed to I could add a power amp and cab if I needed more power in the future. I don't think the blackstar would satisfy me with it's overdrive tone, the engl is much more my style as far as that goes. The videos on YouTube sound great, there are even a couple with just the 530 straight into a cab, using the built in power amp, and it sounds pretty ridiculous.

It's an excellent preamp. I would hold onto mine if I wasn't getting one of those newfangled Axe FX 2s.
