I am going to forget about the new axe for a second and see what you like about the gear you already have.
What do you have in the JP6, if not a Dimarzio Crunch Lab? The JP6 comes stock with a Crunch Lab which is a pretty low output (11k) ceramic pup.
The Dragon II's in the Custom 22 is medium output at 15k.
Are you playing the new axe through the VH4, and don't like how it sounds there? The V loves lower output pickups and it seems you are going in the wrong direction. What guitar and pickup combination sounds best through your rig?
Personally, I have a Herbert that I use with an ESP LTD (EMG 81/85), Les Paul (8k BurstBucker Pros), and a PRS CU24. When I got the PRS I absolutely hated the bridge HFS (15k). It was trebly and mushy with the Herbert. I figured it must be the pickups, so I replaced them with a BKP Rebel Yell (14.4k). They sounded very similar to the HFS (as they should given they both had the same output). I then assumed it must be the wood and/or the guitar
I then figured I would give the PRS the benefit of the doubt and do one more pup swap before I got rid of the PRS. This is when I got a WCR Godwood
For my style of play, playing with this type of amp (high gainer Diezel), the lower output pups just work. The only exception that I found is with the EMG combo. They are very smooth through the Herbert.
Can you do a pickup swap with Tim (BKP) or whoever built the guitar? I would give some of Tim's Vintage (Mule or Riff Raff) or Vintage Hot(VHII) pups another shot.
