Recommend me a nice power amp that compliments the Marshall JMP-1 nicely. Should it be a tube or solid state? Just scored a used JMP-1 at Music go Round Tues. Also if anyone has one for sale...I might be interested . thanks.

i suggest a Marshall EL34 100/100

I like mine better than my 2:90 most of the time

I think you'd be better off going tube. Do you have a spending limit? I'd say look for a Marshall 9100 or 9200 poweramp to match, depending on how much power you're looking for. If not a Mesa 50/50 always gets the job done

I have a VHT 2/50/2 that I bought recently that's going up for sale...

Kinda looking to stay somewhere in the $500 range. Playing guitar is my second bad habit. Drums are first. So far great suggestions, keep them comin'. Hopefully I can find a good score on Ebay or Craigs list.

I bought this VHT to use with a JMP-1 (also to be for sale soon), and what bugged me about the setup was the artificial sound and feel of the JMP-1. I expected that sound because of the SS components, and thought I wanted it. Wanting and having are 2 different things I guess, and I was unwilling to ditch my SL-X head for the more sterile rack setup. The only thing that bugged me about the VHT was the fan noise playing at low volumes, which I'd get on any tube power amp. It's super tight and holds up great at high volumes. If I were to keep the JMP-1, which I won't, I would say screw it and go solid state, since it sounds SS to me anyway. I had been looking at the Rocktron Velocity 300 and would reconsider that. It gets a lot of good reviews and is in your budget.

I have a Rocktron Velocity 300 that has 1 intermittent channel that Im selling for 75 bucks. Its probably something stupid that causes the problem, but I have a Velocity 150 as well so I havent had the 300 looked at. I just need to get rid of some clutter in my basement. Let me know if you're interested.

One of my friends used to have a mesa 2-90 ,man it sounded amazing  and you have more tone options with the modern, half drive n deep modes it sounds massive, I forgot i used to have that same poweramp with a rocktron Prophesy and it sounded really good in fact the 2-90 can make the shitiest preamp sound good!  In the 500$ range i would choose the mesa 50/50 there is a video in you tube of that combo sounds really

I'm running mine with a Rocktron Velocity 300. It works nicely. I don't use tube poweramps for the simple reason of maintenance issues. The Rocktron is pretty killer as SS poweramps go.
