I want to purchase a couple Weber Legacy 65 watt speakers before the BOGO (buy one, get one half-off sale) ends, but not sure what ohm rating to buy...I'll be using my Mark IV mostly which has the 8 ohm out, and can also run into a 16 ohm cab as a "safe mismatch".

Am I correct in assuming the following?- Two 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel will give me an 8 ohm cab?
Or could I get two 8 ohm speakers and wire them in series for a 16 ohm cab?

The reason I ask is because eventually, I may want to get two more of these speakers for a 412. Are there noticeable tonal differences between series and parallel? What would you do to get the best tone out of a 212 but also be expandable to a 412 setup down the road?

Get the 16's now and wire 'em up as 8 ohm in the 2x12. Buy two more later and wire them all into a 4x12 as 16 ohm.

Cool. Would that be series-parallel then, in the 412? Any tonal difference? Thanks! :)

Went with two 65 watters, 30 oz magnets, 75 hz, standard british dustcap, 16 ohms.
Pretty excited to finally have some GB flavored speakers!

If these are the same as the old Scumback M75s, I think you'll love them. I have a pair in a CAA 2x12 that sound amazing.

Weber Legacy M75 8 65
This had a sharper high end than the Scumback, accompanied by less thickness in the upper mid range. I will do more testing here as it was expected this speaker would sound very close to Indiana made Scumback.

Hi Jim. I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes. I shouldn't have said that the Legacies are the same speaker-just going on things I've read. I had to jump on the sale, it's the only way I could get my hands on this type of speaker. Love to grab some J75 with large dustcap eventually, they sound huge in the Pete Thorn demo.

Not a big deal, I'm used to those online misconceptions and mis-statements now. That "Basically the same speaker" line is just that, a line. Whenever I see it posted, I just reference that thread. Far better to read it from someone who bought all the speakers and tested for himself than me doing it though.

I read through a few pages of the TGP thread but I didn't want to get caught up in "this one's better than that one"... I actually did reach out to one member their who owns both yours and the Webers but didn't get a response yet. Again, sorry to jump to conclusions or make generalizations/comparisons based on the two products.

That's ok. I've got a local client who called Weber and talked to the TA himself. He told him they're the same speaker "basically". So he got some, and compared them to real ones he already had. After the comparison he sold the Legacies, and bought two of my new ones to go with his old ones.

Shoot me an email and I'll forward you the emails I've received from those who've had both unedited. All of these clients have agreed to forward their emails if needed for questions such as yours.

But I'll make this easy for the RT crowd, here's what that TGP poster wrote me.

"BTW, The Weber Legacy does not sound like the Scum to me. Scumback has that upper mid harmonic richness that is really addictive with the Komet."
