I get where you're coming from: gear is meant to be played, especially for an audience.

But, for many good reasons, many guitarist don't. Fortunately for those that do, we still buy gear- lots of it-, which brings down the unit costs for new and loads the classifieds with minty used equipment. Can you imagine how much gear would have to cost, if only those that regularly-gigged bought equipment?
Well said, good point

Or when theyre selling an amp that 'is the best sounding amp they've ever played'...but they're selling it  Then, the old owner chimes in (because now theyre 'selling' buddies ;)) and chimes in about how 'this was my old amp and it's a KILLER amp!'

I've seen this a lot. I mean, we follow gear moving around like a dirty whore here on Rig-Talk, right? :D

I'm gonna change my tune here on this thread a bit. I've been a rig-talker for 4 years now, but thru this thread I am starting to see that the demographic of Users on here is indeed legitimate people who either just collect, or are in this for the love of all that is guitar and gear. I still think there are a few bozos that may be riding some coat tails on here, but alas there is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping your gear Minty, only playing a prized ax every blue moon or so, or having a top of the line back line that could support the eagles final farewell tour and it not getting played any louder than a whisper, if at all. That is totally me as well, just thought I was a bit of an anomaly on here Actually, this thread has given me some clarity about some of the fellow members here and a better understanding about who I should look do deal with in the buy/sell nature of this forum. I stand before you, pleasantly corrected

Agreed. Everybody's got a "smoke-free, climate controlled, humidity controlled studio" in their house. In other words, "a spare bedroom full of guitar shit with a closed window."

The Keeley compressor & box I bought a few years back from someone on Ebay arrived absolutely hum-dinging of smoke. Like the previous owner had kept it in his studio, smoking 20 a day with no windows.
I gave him neutral feedback as this is something I expect to be mentioned, or at least I would have expected the item to have been aired-out. Had I known, I would have concentrated on other auctions. Smoke has a horrendous affect on electronic equipment.

When we're talking boutique expensive guitars & amplifiers, having some assurance that the item has been well looked after goes a long way for me. I expect a seller to tell the truth. If something is well-used & regularly gigged then it absolutely changes the price. Simple as that. If the power tubes on an amp have been thrashed, It might need a re-tube. Re-tubes aren't peanuts.

What people choose to do with their stuff is totally up to them. I don't get to pump the master on my VH4 above 9 o clock & it's a stadium-worthy back-line, arguably wasted on a, now, non-gigging recreational musician. That along with some custom guitars & pedals amounts to many thousands of pounds & dollars.

I play my guitar a lot, but I make an effort to look after them. Might have to start putting them back in the case once my daughter arrives though! :)

I totally get ya man. And congrats to that daughter on the way. I had to make sure a few select pieces were conveniently out of reach when my kids came in the picture. I kept having this reoccurring nightmare of my daughter getting hold of my private stock and coloring in the inlays with a sharpie. Cool thing is, the kids are a life changer and you'll have maybe a few of your best pieces to hand down when the time comes, and possibly influence them to play one day.

Hahaha. So true man. I wonder what piece of gear has made it around block the most. Now that would be a good thread to start!

The vast majority of guitar players will never play a gig in their life.
Most people don't smoke.

I get the skepticism but with forums like this and tgp it's very possible to get high end gear that's years old and never really used. Many of these guys never gig and don't even play in a band. It's just a hobby and they have plenty of extra income. I know that I have waaay too much gear and there are a few pieces that have never really been used and are still like brand new. Just too lazy to list it but eventually I will.

I'll drop my price for today only. My dog needs a new liver, emergency sale.

Jk. The only gear I don't play is the gear I don't like. Plain and simple for me but I'm a player not a collector.

For example I'm selling a cheap 7 that no one here would buy. But I literally only played it a few times. That's only because I'm done with 7's. It's my second one and unless someone gives me a Skervesen or something insane for cheap I won't buy another. I can't see myself ever opening that case again.

Obviously that's an exception but there are exceptions.

I think most of the time these types of ads you mention are BS, however I'm sure there's been a few here and there that were legit. Impossible to know.

Too much fluff in those ads almost scares me away.

Now if were talking amps. If someone had a Diezel for 8 years and only turned in on twice I would stay far away from that one.

My amps like to be turned on weekly even if not played just to keep it from becoming old and decrepit :)

HA! Why? I just picked up a 2001 Diezel VH4 that had NEVER been powered on until August 2014. Guy bought it, got involved in a divorce, and never even had the chance to turn it on. It sat in a box for 13 years. Outside of a dead battery on the midi chip, it was the perfect find for me. A brand new, old VH4.

My amps like to be turned on weekly even if not played just to keep it from becoming old and decrepit :)
During my busy times with work, many of my amps will go a couple months without being turned on.

Another bedroom player here. Aside from the rare occasion here and there, I only get to play my amps "loud" now that I have a Torpedo Live

My main classifieds pet peeve is when the title is something like "Stuff for Sale". No shit, that's why you're posting, put something in the title so that people know what is is without having to click...

If we're talking pet peeves in listings, posts where there is no location in the text or in the user profile are annoying, plus when people state (for example) ESP, when what they have is a LTD.. There isn't even the excuse of being misinformed like stating it's a US Charvel when it's a Japanese or whatever, it damn well says LTD in the end LOL

This thread is totally misleading, I thought there was a Mint Christ available
Wasn't sure if "Mint" was the condition, the flavor, or the color.

In regards to what you think about me and my playing habits..................

Wow. So you took this thread personally huh? Clearly , and I'm mean Crystal, you went from the top of this thread to the bottom without reading any of the in between. Sorry my generalizations struck a nerve with you chief.
Just checked out your ad. Oh it's mint man. Box and all. Never gigged, never been penetrated by a 1/4 guitar cable either. The rubber feet are in "as new" condish. Hmmmmm
I'll give ya 125$ for it Braw! That's 125$ Shipped and Pal'd
Let me know

Uhhhh no.

It's been played some but yes it's mint.

Give my non gigging, bedroom wanking, gear whoring ass $130 and its yours. PM me for my paypal

As said the vast majority of gear sold is to hobbyists and that is actually a good thing for gigging musicians as it means we can get good deals on used stuff. And that when you buy new the prices aren't as insane as they would be if there sales #s were way smaller due to selling only to gigging guys. Collectors and hobbyists are A-ok in my books.

I could've sworn I saw some videos of you playing thru a Landry head, but your ad said this:

"Here they are. the Landry- awesome amp-early VH tones- Demartini and beyond. Lots of gain. PTp handwired. Real spring reverb. Only 4 months old. Never gigged, or left my bedroom for that matter. One of the best cleans I've heard on an el34 100 watter. I'm the only owner of this beauty. -$1700" . . Did you own 2 Landry heads? :-P
