I could've sworn I saw some videos of you playing thru a Landry head, but your ad said this:

"Here they are. the Landry- awesome amp-early VH tones- Demartini and beyond. Lots of gain. PTp handwired. Real spring reverb. Only 4 months old. Never gigged, or left my bedroom for that matter. One of the best cleans I've heard on an el34 100 watter. I'm the only owner of this beauty. -$1700" . . Did you own 2 Landry heads? :-P

That was bike week last October when we opened for "Roadkill Soda". My band (and about 2 or 3 others) used their bands entire back line including all amps and drums/Pa. The bar putting on the event did not want to have a bunch of dead time between acts setting up the drums and tearing down ect... That's the guitarists Landry and stack. If memory serves, he got very pissed because I spun the knobs to my liking and didn't put them back to their original places.(lame) I loved how open the amp sounded tho and that very gig gave me the bug to order one from Bill a few weeks later. Put very little time on the amp at my humidity controlled, smoke free studio(bedroom) when I happened along a SLO and that put the end to my Landry love. I sold it after owning it only 4 months. But here's the real kicker that kinda ties back to the thread here. That amp cost me 2500$, I sold it for 1450$ shipped and palled and a guy (who is really the type of guy I'm talking about here) had it up for sale the very same day he got it and made 200$ of me. Literally from the time I showed FedEx had delivered it till the time the post went live on rigtalk was 43 minutes. Time enuff to take some new pix, shrink them down to postable size, maybe a quick glass of tea, plus the typing of his new minty post. Now that kinda sucks. I don't even think he turned it on. I fell for the Ol Rig Talk flip flop.
Nice private eye work bye the way there Magnum.

Don't blow a gasket dude

It's only a sign that:
The only people that can afford very expensive gear are too busy working so they can buy that very gear (and other stuff), hence they don't have time to play it.

So your buying the "took it out of the case, looked at it, smiled and it's been in the closet ever since last Tuesday"?

You bet

Sold a 3000$ amp to a friend about 3 months ago
Guy hasn't even played it yet (doesn't like playing in the summer)

Also traded an amp with with some other dude...
My amp was a 9/10 and his was a 10/10... he insisted we swap leather handles and rubber feet so he could keep those from his amp, because they were "in better condition"
Yes, some people really are freaks

swapped the rubber feet, dear god!!!! I would have been astonished.

Another thing I'd like to add.

You say "gear is meant to be gigged and used, so use the shit out of it!"

I personally don't want to buy other people's junk. ;)

My neighbor has a brand new Corvette that he never, ever drives, but he has his garage open everyday, and washes it about every other day so everyone can see  Reminds me of this Biker pic. Someone should do the guitar player version of this. :D
$1700 for Rolex watch? I wanna know where that guy shops! :D

Awesome story!!! Now that's entertainment   That sucks that you sold that so cheap and then it got flipped for a profit! . . I was interested in buying it , and researched a bit, but somehow resisted temptation. My situation is a bit different than the guys you're talking about as I use my amps and I use them loud routinely . I have 3 different p/t bands. BUT I also love them too much ,get sentimentally attached for some reason and have a hard time selling them! When I do sell gear though I typically have 1 of the best prices on the net and also have had guys flip stuff I've sold for a profit. Rock on .. You're a very good guitarist with a very good band if I recall ;)

Eric

I sell shit cheap all the time. I don't really mind someone selling a pice of gear I sold them for a profit. This is America. What I do take offense to is when they put it back up in the classifieds the same day they get it. This dude sent me tons of PMs, with yarns of how he need it for the big gig coming up and all that. Really sucks. I'm in two PT bands as well. I think I remember you now sending me a PM or something with a nice comment about my band or playing. Whether that is you or not, thanks for the kind words dude. Send me a link or a clip to what you've got going on. Id like to check it out. What kinda tunage you going with. ?? Give me a little rig rundown on what your playing thru and playing in. Curious here.

If I didn't play and was just a collector, I would find something else to collect personally. The passion to play is all that keeps me from washing my hands of all music gear and never looking back.

Just the thought of never having to stress about shipping a heavy tube amp, or whether the guitar you bought online has issues would be like a large weight lifted off my shoulders.

I actually have to give kudos to those who don't play but buy/collect gear and put up with it, because I sure as heck wouldn't.

It is a safe hobby and not everyone gigs nor wants to gig but still play ;) Doesn't mean we can play or melt faces...most already have ;)

I honestly feel that is more so a result anal buyers...the so called dentist collectors who buy uber high end stuff, look over it with a microscope, want money off if there are 3 dust particles on it.... and then if really acceptable put it back away and play 3 cowboy chords every 6-8 months lol. They don't want gigged grear because it may smell of smoke or have coodies. You see the same "smoke free" studio etc ;) All my stuff is tobacco smoke free ;)

You can't begin to understand what goes on peoples minds. I fucking play my stuff, it is why I buy it in the first place. I find it funny people leaving LP custom stickers on the guards years after buying or the Made in USA Fender flag decal or custom shop on pickguards...I take care of my stuff but I have 20 something guitars all out of their case. If I cased them I'd never play half of them.

Life is too short to worry about what others do or are like....ain't nobody got no time for that, just do what you do and do it well ;)

Most certainly I wouldnt want to either.
When I get an amp and I know I dont like it I usually let it go within a week or so after really tying to dial it in and one session with a drummer. I never get a chance to play the shit out of them. :aww:

But I havent had a new amp in a couple years. And I never lug my stuff around. It just sits in my garage never moved.
I go out and plug and play. I can see where things get gigged they can get knocked around for sure.

One session with a drummer is all I need to know.

Not being in a full band anymore I did the next best thing (or one of the next best things imo)...

I used to take every amp I bought over to my friends garage for the "test", to see how it performed in a drum mix. Invariably every amp that did well in the garage jam test I kept longer than other amps that didn't so well.

I don't have the same access anymore for those jam sessions, but occasionally still do...

For sure!
I will spend the week dialing it just me in the room with my cabs at moderate to loud levels.
Then I play it with my drummer. Have him help me tweak it from what he hears and pretty much decide after that if it stays or goes.
