Wasn't Jeff Watson one of the first guys (commercially speaking) to really utilize the 8 finger approach to tapping?

Yeah the 8 finger thing was all him. If someone did it prior..
No one knows.

The only other guy I remember doing it back around that time was Steve Lynch from Autograph (of "Turn Up the Radio" fame), but I think Jeff was first.

Remember when Gillis took over for Randy after he passed (Speak of the Devil)? I thought he did a great job and I heard he had a very short time frame in which to learn those tunes.

Funny, if you look on you tube it looks like Sharon had all the speak of the devil video stuff removed? Not surprising, right? :gethim:
To this day I still love S.O.T.D.. Gillis tore shit up on that album and he had a MONSTER tone. Still one of my favorite guitar tones. He told me it was a couple of Boogies in stereo.

George Lynch worked at Delores Rhoads studio teaching guitar with Randy before & after his death.

George auditioned for Ozzy after Randys death but was passed over for Gillis.

After Brad, George was passed over again for Jake.

GL may be one of the few whom Ozzy rejected twice.

George also made guitars on the side and sold them to students & others.

STANLEY JORDAN was the very first i ever seen, this was before JEFF did it on any album.
But yeah in rock guitar JEFF was definitely the first one.

Not sure why the op didn't just link to the song(s) Jeff plays on though.

I linked the solo JEFF played on which is impressed me most. ;)

Here's my take on Sister Christian. I posted it a while back but recently changed a few things and tightened up the solo.

Watson and Gillis were awesome. It's just a shame that most of Night Rangers tunes were commercial gayness.

whoa, he kind of had a rain man thing going on there at first :D

Something not a lot of people know about...Jeff Watson/Holdsworth duo(yes cheese to the max album cover lol): I have this one on my guitar on the edge cd collection(anyone remember those;)? Very cool, rippin' playing here, love it!:

But, IMO, that was the brilliance of the '80's scene. A lot of the songs were geared for the pop side of harder rock/metal. Folks bought the records and went To the shows, but the musicianship was there, in full force. Most of those cats could bring it.

I guess on could argue they sold out... :dunno:

I met those guys on tour when sister Christian was playing about every thirty minutes on mtv....

very cool cats, but gillis got annoyed when I kept asking for ozzy&sharon stories, lulz...

blades was a chump and the keyboard guy never spoke,... seriously, he just sat on the tour bus, stared into space

Jeff Watson is on this Steve Morse Band "Southern Steel" album track:

Cut To The Chase

I was partying with Brad and Joel a few years back, and Brad was also a little annoyed that I wanted to talk so much about "Speak of the Devil" and his tone on that album.  He's a super cool dude though.
