got this a month or so ago and the amp was somewhat tame and I thought something wasn't quite right, so I got some new preamp tubes from Laura (ValveQueen) and fired it up, big improvement. Been running the T-Rec into my Mills for a bit but then ran into the Bogner V30 4x12 and the Uberkab for this clip. Also using the somewhat new Zoom Q4. If you have some decent speakers to listen to please do, it captured the low end thump of the Mesa pretty well. Basic signal is Suhr Custom T with 2 HB's (BKP Aftermath set) into the Mesa Flux Drive to boost.

Sounds ripping man! Might have to black mine out one day. Looks cool as shit!what channel and mode?

Steve

Channel 2 - Modern Mode, loop bypassed
Presence - 10:00
Master - 9:30
Gain - Noon
Bass - 1:00
Middle - 11:00
Treble - Noon

SOUNDS AMAZING !!!

I'll take a boosted rectifier over 95% of the over priced
fan-boi/modded stuff people max out their credit cards over on this
board.

Is that a pre 2010 triple rectifier ???

BAD ASS !!! WOOT !!!

this is a Multi-Watt version that I ordered end of 2013, amp was received end of Feb 2014

Laura suggested some different pre-amp tubes for it (think the ones in there were/are JJ) I changed out 3 of the 4...didn't mess with the loop preamp position as I don't use the loop

thanks for kind words - sounds hellacious in the room.

A boosted recto is pissed off sounding amp for sure! Mine is the third one ive had lol. Gonna keep this one.

It might be just me, but I have had like toooo many rectifiers over the years...

And the multi-watts seem to have this "harshness in the high end" I don't hear nearly as much in the pre 2010 rectifers and the two channel rectifiers...

I found it almost impossible to dial it out or find a happy medium with it?

Any thoughts on this?

Stealth Triple Multi watt for the win.

I put EL34's in mine and it's more aggressive sounding now.

tubes and eq might contribute to it being harsh
i had a tung sol in V1 position and was harsh to me so I put the stock mesa tube back in.

the one I have now (as I've had various rectos) sounds pretty darn good. aggressive and full bodied, like a good beer :D

Oh man, that sounds ridiculous.
I never boost but I think I might.

There seem to be many people that use an equalizer. I have one of the fish n chips.
Any recommendations for what freq's to boost with it? Front or loop?

I have used any of these boosts with good results IMHO...boost always in front. Some folks do the eq thing in loop, I've not tried an eq

Maxon OD808: level at 5:00 gain at 8:00
Mesa Flux Drive: level at noon, gain around 7:00, bass at 1:00, treble at 10:00
Suhr Koko: levels around noon for clean and mid boost

^How would you compare the Mesa Flux and the Koko with the Triple?

I prefer to call it the "None More Black" mod.

I prefer the Flux for boosting the modern chuggy stuff, I don't solo really but the mid boost on the Koko is great for lead riffs and the like. The amp responds nicely to the Flux - I don't use the Flux for more "gain" but for tighter more definite attack...it adds a bit of hair but not too much. I think a big thing to note is to keep gain close to noon on the Rectos if boosting otherwise it's overkill.

Sounds great! I've said it a million times but I was shocked at how big of a difference new JJs made in my recto.

in a good way or bad way? my power tubes are stock - preamps were all JJ, but swapped some out

In a good way! My amp sounded ok stock but it had the typical loose, grainy, harsh recto tone. I retubed with KT77s, new pres and GZ34 rectifiers and it was like a new amp.

Mine was an '04 or so.

The Tung's are a great pre tube, BUT only in some amps.
Amps that have high gain to begin with can get a harsh tone with a Tung in V1.

On my Egnater Vengeance I use 1 Tung in like V3 or V4 which is for the high gain channel.
V1 is a high gain but smoother sounding Sovtek LPS, and it sounds good in that position.
V1 provides the drive and intro tone then V3 and V4 add more cascaded gain and don't seem to affect the overall tone as much as the V1 tube.

I had a TungSol in V1 - was too much hum and was harsh
other than that the one if the Input position is working fine...lots of variables to get the "right" tone...or lack of tone depending on what you think
