Guitar Rig is a decent toy. Don't expect dynamics, but nice sounds and plenty of Stomp boxes.

Line6, GuitarRig, Revalver etc are your friends.... Why even bother to have your amp in your bedroom? Amps are best for rehersal spaces/studio/gigs in my opinion. (but my opionion usually changes twice a year )

I am out on the road right now. I use a line6 x3 live with headphones. It does the trick for sure but the headphone get too warm. Next time I am at home I am bringing a solid state practice amp to plug the X3 into.

Blackstar HT-5 combo. Swap out the speaker. This should be plenty good enough to keep you jamming and feeling that tube vibe while your gone and yet keep your more expensive gear safe at home while your gone.

I have the new engl Gigmaster 15 head, and I dig it, but here in the states, its much more pricey then the blackstar, so I would recommend going with the HT-5 combo. Though the gigmaster combo looks plenty compact. I personally don't like how guitar, specially distorted guitar, sounds in headphones.

Maybe a small clean amp - like a Laney VC15 - and buy a load of awesome distortion pedals, like the OKKO Dominator. Bedroom Mesa Boogie right there.

I used to have the OKKO Dominator and sold it when I went with Diezel... some irony there. Thanks for the suggestion, but I all I want is a small low powered amp that I can stick in a corner, plug in and get away with playing at low volumes without upsetting those around me.

Fair enough. I like using distortion pedals as a way in which to create another channel/sound that is completely different in character. Same with overdrive pedals - except they're often best pushing the valves harder rather than adding another channel.

The VC15 is a low powered, small amp. Okay you won't hear poweramp distortion at bedroom volumes, but that's where the pedals come in. And the Einstein never really breaks up in the power section unless you're playing stupidly loud at a gig, so going from an Einstein to a 5 watt Matamp-type amp will be a huge change. Anyway, I hear what you're saying.

The new HT-1 has just been released. There is a demo online by Andertons Music in the UK. Look it up on YouTube. It doesn't sound half-bad.

I haven't heard the new Gigmaster but it could be perfect for you. 1 watts, 10" speaker, emulated-out, etc. Pretty cheap, too.

Decision made! I bought an ENGL 1x12 cab yesterday - v/happy with the low volume stuff now.
