I hate noise gates and yet I do have one on my board. It's a little Joyo Gate of Khan and it works just fine. I might turn it on for like three minutes in a month. Just for kind of an effect. My hand muting the strings and my volume knob have been good enough with every amp I've owned. I think the amp sounds more alive and natural without one.
