New Amps Week- Shiva And 5153

I wasn’t really looking for a Shiva, but I got a stupid good deal on it that not only was it worth buying on principle alone, but white knuckling it up to Delray Beach in shitty ass Florida weather.

I “need” a metal amp for the band I’m putting together this year, a chugga chugga amp and this won’t be it, but I might use it to power a 4x12 and run my FM9 into it because I fucking love this amp and don’t see myself selling it anytime soon. It’s an ‘08 green chassis. I can see why Cantrell used these for so long. I put an OCD in front of it for an input boost and daaaaaamnnnnn.

I first plugged in my Strat and while I was digging it, what put me over the edge was the Orville with the Aldrich in the bridge. Played the thing for 20 minutes before I realized there was a Presence knob next to the MV I can actually use the thing in my apartment, but tomorrow I might make it over to the campus I run and set this up in a vacant suite so I can let it rip at obnoxious levels and no one will say a thing.

This amp isn’t going fuckin’ anywhere. Once I got a little more comfortable with the knobs and put my Strat back on, goddamn this is a great amp! That clean channel with a Strat is fuckin’ perfect.

Love my 20th Shiva. However the loop is hot as fuck. Its a gain boost just having something in the loop.

Does the 20th have the separate Sends for pedal/vs rack gear? I’ve had just a single pedal or the G-Force in the loop, today I put my FM9 in 4CM and I haven’t had any issues. Actually quite happy with how well that all integrated!

For some reason I thought it’d be a bit of a pain in the ass getting the FM9 sitting right with the amp, but I literally loaded up the same effects blocks from my existing presets and I didn’t tweak a thing. I got lost on that clean channel, Bass and Treble on 5 with the Bright switch engaged, for about an hour and a half today with my Strat. Holy fucking shit, man.

EL34.

And yeah, there’s some spots this reminds me a lot of a Friedman, at least until you push the Treble and Presence, especially with the boost engaged.

This popped up locally for such a stupidly cheap price I thought it was a scam. Turns out it wasn’t and fortune smiles upon ME!!!!!

Congrats! If you find the red channel to have too much gain (most likely you will ? ), swap preamp tubes V2, V3, V4 or a combination to lower gain versions.
I put 2 5751's in V3 and V4, which helped a lot.

I’ll definitely give that a shot just for shits and giggles. I’ve already decided the Blue channel will be for leads and the Red for rhythms, but I haven’t put that Gain knob higher than 2 o’clock because, why?
